Firware Update 1.11

If you managed to get a Japanese PS3 unit (some of us here at QJ did), you'll notice that you can't log into the PlayStation Network anymore. Well, you can, but you'd have to do a system update. The image above is a screen capture of the Google Translate of the Official Japanese page.

From what we can gather from the rough translation, they've made the "Account Management" feature to the friends section more accessible. However, IGN already has a news post announcing that we should be prepared for the update. This particular paragraph stands out though.

However, there is speculation among PS3 users that the updated fixed something else, since the browser seems to load pages faster, and the actual download itself takes more than a minute to download. We've heard of reports of up to 10 minutes for the entire update to fully download, and we experienced a 5 minute wait ourselves. Unfortunately the only documented change was the AMS, so we'll have to take Sony's word on it for now.

The official site has a series of update procedures in it, but so far the most comfortable method it seems would be to use the PS3 "system update." Anyways we'll be providing download links to the firmware here if in case you want to install it via USB. Pretty much what we did with Firmware 1.10.

As of this posting we still can't find a Firmware 1.11 page in the North American section of the official PlayStation site so we're just going to provide, for now, a link for the Japanese update. As with the 1.10 update, save it into a PS3/UPDATE folder.

Keep checking us back, we'll update this page if we get any more details on what exactly 1.11 does.

» 1080i

I have been playing resistance in 480p because when I use 1080i I get a messed up screen now after the update resistance is playing in 1080i, a warning popped up(for the first time) that says "your output is set to 1080i for the best performance for resistance fall of man your output should be set to 720p" pressed continue and now resistance works fine in 1080i, thank goodness I dont have to keep switching resolution when I want to play resistance from now on.

» Good thing ps3 is open source i hope

Well look at this. Forced updates if you want to use the internet for ps3. You can't sign in unless you update. Luckly the console is open source. Otherwise this would have been a problem cause they would patch up the good stuff. Hope they keep to the open source promise.

» MS needed alot of updates

Every time you logged into Xbox Live, it checks and downloads a new update WITHOUT you knowing.

» wait..

so does this mean, in order to get onto the network, we'll have to update each and every time they come out with one?

I mean, it can only get better, but y'know with the PSP dev scene, firmware updates usually mean bad news for homebrewers...
