Your opinion: Top 5 games based on movies |
Ó
411mania got the idea right when they talked about their list of top 5 anything. From top 5 RPG characters to top 5 worst movie-based games, the guys who put up their individual lists always do a good job (or at least a funny one) explaining their choices. Most recently, the staff of 411mania decided to do the unthinkable: list the top 5 best games based on movies and TV.
For the most part, the picks were spread out among different genres and game types since the creation of video games. For instance, Tommy Colona, one of the three staff members who made a top 5 list, picked Capcom's NES-era disney games as his number one choice on the basis of gameplay fun. Different incarnations of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games also got some love from these guys. Nintendo 64's Goldeneye FPS was mentioned, as well as the Kingdom Hearts series, and if you haven't played those games, you definitely missed out on some good times.
Not one to miss out, allow me to offer my humble list of top 5 games based on movies and television. Feel free to comment with your own list as well.
5. Lego Star Wars Series
Nothing gets the adrenaline pumping faster than the killing Lego blocks shaped like Darth Vader. Nothing at all.
4. Spider-man 2
Not all the games did the Spider-man franchise justice, but the game based off of the "Spider-man 2" movie was a lot of fun. Add to that the voice of Bruce Campbell as your tutor, and the ability to deliver pizzas as the wall-crawler, and you have a fun game.
3. Avatar: The Last Airbender
You have to admit that the show is great fun to watch. The handheld versions are pretty nice renditions, but my prediction is that the Wii version will probably make people who've never heard of the series want to watch the show.
2. Anything that has Spongebob Squarepants in it.
This is biased, but any game that I can do a preview on in sing-song format is going to be something interesting. I don't even need to wait for a release, because it'll just be perfect.
1. Anything WWE-related since the new century began.
A good number of WWE games have had such awesome gameplay mechanics and fun matches. Why it counts in this list, above all others? Because the WWE has more drama than a soap opera.

Second... wait no...
Most SpongeBob games are trash, and don't get me started on WWE. Whoever actually enjoys those games needs to rethink life. Anyone who actually watches and enjoys wrestling needs to rethink their life... And since when is WWE a "movie"? If it was a joke, you're horrible at sarcasm, never attempt it again.
You're gay. SpongeBob is the *****. Lol.

CHRONICLES OF RID*****: ESCAPE FROM BUTCHERS BAY THE THING TWO OF THE BEST MOVIE TIE IN GAMES. THIS LIST IS BS
Why cant I say Chronicles of ri.d.d..ick..... lol ***** ..... very funny THE THING!!! THE BEST MOVIE GAME, AND NOT EVEN A MENTION. LEGO STAR WARE, SPIDER MAN 2 FAIR ENOUGH, BUT NO RID, OR THE THING????? WTF????
Goldeneye was the best FPS in its generation, and still goes down in history as one of the best multiplayer FPS. It was so good, it's regarded as better than the movie by a bunch of my non-videogame playing friends. Seriously, what kind of list is this?
Best FPS in its generation no. Great shooter yes. Better than the movie wow very close. Best game movie tie in? Yep
I shouldn't have to read articles as bad as this one, wrestling sucks.
agreed.
Wrestling is for *****gots who like to watch naked men touch each other. Seriously, anyone who would waste time, let alone money, on that ***** is a total retard.
what about the lotr games (the second 2 not the first one) those were great games.... and what the hell sponge bob, wwe, avatar!!! those are some *****ty games what kinda list is this
goldeneye was great, too bad EA bought the bond license and turned the game to crap as far as movie flow, I agree, it's definitely one of the better ones, especially considering it's a FPS
Half of those aren't even movies. Chronicals of Ridd...ick, and golden eye blow these out of the water. Gah..
how about a list of best movies based on games? Oh wait, they all suck... Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Doom. OK, Resident Evil wasn't too bad. Lara Croft movies were good. So I guess the top five list would be: Lara Croft I Lara Croft II empty empty Resident Evil
Whoever wrote this article has NO taste in games, except for spiderman 2
Where the hell is Chronicles of Rid*****? That game really should've been up there.
OMFG! C'mon People, let's do this list RIGHT! First - I am going to play by the rules set by this writer (and I use the term loosely) and include television shows along with movies: Number 5: Name: Parasite Eve Platform: PlayStation Genre: Action RPG Company: Squaresoft Many don't know it, but this game was based on a japanese film of the same name and though it changed the story a bit, it was VERY successful. If you haven't played this title, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. It's got the horror/sci-fi vibe to boot. A little dated graphically by today's standards, but a great game. Number 4: (Tie, but from the same movie) Name: Jurrassic Park Platform: SNES and Genesis Genre: SNES - Action/Adventure : Genesis - Action/Platform Company: SNES - Ocean : Genesis - Blue Sky These are two very different titles but with some great gameplay. The SNES game is an action adventure that utilizes a top-down isometric view for the exterior sections and a first-person mode for the interior gameplay. Granted, it's pushing the system a bit, but there's nothing like being in first-person mode, coming through a door and having a velociraptor jump toward you. As for the Genesis title by Blue Sky, it is a tight platformer with excellent graphics for the time. I particularly enjoyed the fact that you could play through the game as either Dr. Alan Grant or as a velociraptor. Not only were the gameplay mechanics different, but the overall level design was unique to each character. Fun stuff. Number 3: (Only non-movie title) Name: Spiderman Platform: N64/PlayStation Genre: 3D Action Company: Neversoft Though the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube movie-based games provided much better graphics and decent gameplay mechanics, the over-the-top story and intricate puzzle/battle strategies were spot on in this incarnation. This was the big step in the right direction for the videogame future of this franchise. It was the first time in a videogame that you really felt like you were taking control of the Web-Slinger and saving the day. Number 2: Name: GoldenEye Platform: N64 Genre: First-Person-Shooter Company: Rare I know many who would argue this for first place. I think it's defensible. However, I have a special title which deserves the first-place slot in my book. Many of you may agree - many may not. But the fact remains that GoldenEye was not just an excellent movie-based game. It was one of the best games on the N64 platform. There were a dozen or so games that were so good that it justified purchasing an N64 just for these alone. In fact, I know a friend who bought the system for GoldenEye, Super Mario 64, and Ocarina of Time. He never bought another game and he will never get rid of the system or those 3 carts. "Money well spent," he insists. I have to agree (although I have a few more titles which I find worthwhile too). The fact is that GoldenEye brought multi-player FPS to the console in a fast-paced exciting way. The only title that has come close to it's level of frenetic multiplayer FPS gameplay on a console is Halo (and Halo 2) on the Xbox. Number 1: Name: Star Wars Platform: Vector-based Arcade Genre: First-person Arcade Flying Shooter Company: Atari 7 WORDS: You get to destroy the death star. That's all you need to know. For those of you who have played this through an emulator like MAME or having unlocked it on your GameCube in "Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike" It's not like playing it with the original yoke. The control for this game was bliss. Especially since it followed Atari's "Red Baron" which had rather loose controls for it's flight engine. I know - this game can be a bit repetitive. It uses vector graphics with only 4 colors (blue, red, green, and white). But for many of us, it was the closest we ever thought we would get to be Luke Skywalker. If you ever see this in an arcade, get in line or put your quarter on the panel to reserve the next round. If you find an actual sit-down version, savor it. They are rare and glorious beasts. Honorable mentions: There
oh my, is this how far QJ has sunk? Reporter, please never post again... ever.
No one is making you read them...
I LOVE Parasite Eve. I'll have to find myself a copy of that movie then.
lol, WWE kinda getting fake...

That's awesome. I had no idea that Paresite Eve was a movie first. I'll have to check that one out.
