You can also browse the eShop when the service launches this May. There will be a lot of content to be downloaded from there, so it'd be handy to be able to play or watch something while you're tinkering with something else.

Once you get into the eShop, you also want to download that free web browser. With the multitasking capability of the 3DS, you can check the web for info that might help you in your game. A certain treasure, for example, or a walkthrough if you're the completionist type.
To navigate yourself through the open apps, you can choose to display a screenshot of the game you're playing on the top screen, or shrink both apps down to fit a screen each.

Don't get me wrong, totally useful! Glad they implemented it. It should also save on battery life when the unit is "sleeping".
On a side note, I love the comments about how the 3DS can multitask because it has 2 CPUs. As we all know, computers with only 1 CPU can't multitask...oh...wait...DOH!
Multitasking is not CPU dependent. It's all about memory management. Seeing as how we've been multitasking clear back to the 33Mhz days and prior....the CPU has nothing to do with it. Many current day devices (like cell phones) can multitask with single low powered CPUs.
