Words of War: Infinity Ward's Call of Duty director slams Activision's Heller

Bowling vs. Heller - Image 1"Unhappy" would be a grave understatement if made to describe Robert Bowling on Activision producer Noah Heller. In a scathing rant on his blog, the Infinity Ward director of communications totally slammed the producer, saying that he's being "completely f*cking wrong."

Where did all this angst come from? Apparently, Bowling didn't think that Heller should have been making comments on interviews comparing World at War with the previous Call of Duty installments.

If you'll remember, the previous CoD titles were made under the tutelage of Infinity Ward. CoD: World at War (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS), however, is now being developed by Treyarch.

Do be clear though, Bowling's beef is with Heller and not Treyarch. Basically, it doesn't suit him well to hear Heller pitching WaW by comparing it to the previous installments. Especially since he was not directly involved with the development of the games per se.

First of all, you didn't work on "previous Call of Dutys", so don't talk as if you're down with how/ why things were designed the way they were. Second, you're completely f*cking wrong.

Hold those woots, there's more:

A rule of thumb I like to use is... when promoting your game, promote YOUR (emphasis his) game. Don't compare it to another game, or reference what OTHER games did in the past, pitch YOUR game. I mean, you have lots of cool things you could talk about... like Nazi zombies...

He also gives a shout out to those doing media coverage for the game:

Can you guys please stoop interviewing this guy, talk to someone who actually works on the dev team at Treyarch and knows what the f*ck they're talking about. Not Senior Douche Noah Heller from Activision - who apparently has never played the game and doesn't even work at the developer.

His words, not ours. For the full rant (which is actually an enjoyable read), head to his blog via the source link below.

» What?

Anger issues? He's telling the f*cking truth. And if you want them to "fix" CoD4 (I seriously have no idea what you are talking about for that), I'd start contacting themselves and not typing in caps lock on the QJ comments section.

This is game marketing 101: when you pitch a game, don't even mention any other games! Don't compare them to anything! Pitch it like it's a fresh, new idea, even if it isn't.

Granted, after playing the WaW beta, the game does feel like CoD4 with WW2 weapons and tanks. But that's not what someone promoting the game should say!

» Grow up.

Infinity ward has to grow up. And learn how to spell.

» huh?

What do you mean "fix" it? There was nothing broken whatsoever from my 6+ months of playing it.

» ?

That's one guy from Infinity Ward, not the whole damn company. It came from the guy's blog, I don't think he gave a damn about perfect grammar & spelling.
