Shigeru Miyamoto - Image 1Nintendo's been pretty quiet lately. Oh sure, they announced Pikmin, the DSi, and GameCube ports, but nothing really... new. Just more of the old stuff with a new layer of shine. Have Miyamoto and Iwata decided to take a break and swim in their money pool?

Naw, it's just the calm before the storm. According to Shigeru Miyamoto, a lot of games for loyal Nintendo fans are in development:

For 30 years now I've been making games and for the vast majority of time I've been making the type of games that the loyal Nintendo fans enjoy.

Those are the types of games that my career is based on and we're going to continue to make those types of games. In fact, we have many of those types of games in development right now.

If you remember, he said as much back in E3, saying that Zelda and Mario games for the Wii are already in development, and a new Zelda game is headed for the DS. Unfortunately, he also said that we probably won't see these games for two to three more years.

Fortunately, between now and then we have MadWorld and The Conduit to look forward to. Not what loyal Nintendo fans might enjoy, but certainly what a lot of Wii owners fed up with Mario games would like to have in their library.

» Uh huh...

Zelda and Mario games are great games and all -don't get me wrong-, but why not give us some variation for crying out loud...

Why not give us new games of other great titles such as Metroid and Trauma Center?

I would say the phrase "Swimming in their money pools" is actually quite accurate by the feel of things...

» Agreed

I'd also like to see some truely brand-new characters and games made by Nintendo. We know they make good games, but sticking only to their "mascots" all of the time is really getting stale.

I wish more third-party developers would create actual games for the Wii instead of gimmicky shovelware.

What ever happened to Donkey Kong?!?! I want a 3D Donkey Kong game on the Wii or another Star fox.

but I do agree about the same characters all the time. A totally different game meant for the Wii would be nice.

OMG I so much agree with you guys.

Nintendo NEEDS a new mascot. Zelda, Mario, DK, and all the others are great, but why not try something completely new?

Wii need Starfox, and none of that adventures crap on the Gamecube.

What they are doing behind the scenes. They certainly talk a big game, but haven't shown us what is actually going to benefit us "Core" gamers. They have been saying this for a year. So where is it?

I look at the Wii wall at Gamestop and I am embarrassed. Just looking at the boxes, it's all junk. Oh and they have no excuse on graphics. Why do GAMECUBE games look far better than Wii games? I don't think I'm crazy when I ask that. Yeah, lots of exceptions, Mario Galaxy for example, but if you grabbed 10 random wii boxes and 10 random GC boxes, the graphics might surprise you. or not.

» True

I felt the same way last time I was at Best Buy. Sure, I saw some of the good titles out on display (maybe 5), but ALL of the rest would look better in a landfill.

I'm not mad that Nintendo has put out their games and now they have to work on the new titles. I'm mad that the 3rd party guys are putting out nothing but shovelware for the most part. Can't Nintendo step up and say, "C'mon guys. This stuff is embarrasing. Could you please try to make games that DON'T suck?"

The graphics issue you bring up is proof (to me at least) that these "game" makers aren't even trying. Just hurry up and finish the game so we can cash in seems to be the mentality here.

Swimming in their money pools indeed.

Yeah, Wii needs an inovative Star Fox.

NO!

Nintendo cannot make a Donkey Kong title.

All the Post-Rare DK titles have been sub par. King of Swing?

Come on!

Ninty needs to get Rare back, then make the DK titles.

And Banjo Kazooie...

I hope Banjo 360 doesn't suck...

rare has been acquired by M$ long ago.. not just all the IP cannot be used anymore, but also, their development type has changed.

by joemontana03 - 2008-10-31 02:02
» nope dude

it doesnt seem to be the mentality, it definitely IS! everybody wants to suck on this cashcow tits, and decent modern games take like 2 years to be done, how to suck NOW? do a random crap game in 2 months. wii users are just *casual*, they dont even know what is a good game anyway..

well, thats the mentality i see at the moment. if things keep going like that, we wont see much cooler games for a long while...

These games will be ready for sale when the wii2 comes out, then probably wii2 exclusive like metroid with the first wii.

by ISOHaven - 2008-11-03 06:29
» WTF!?!?!?!?!

"These games will be ready for sale when the wii2 comes out"

And you base that one what? That crap that come out your rear end?

"then probably wii2 exclusive like metroid with the first wii."

Gee, a first party Nintendo title being exlusive to a Nintendo console. I don't know, that seems pretty off base to me!
