Wii and DSi stores: payment system can't exchange Nintendo Points

Wii, DS Digital Payment Systems Not Interchangeable - Image 1Unless you missed it because you were too busy ogling at the DSi's new camera feature, Wii Points will soon be renamed to Nintendo Points. This is so they can also be used for the new DSi store.

Word of note though - once you plug in the points into a system, they're no longer interchangeable. You either spend the entire point card on a Wii, or a DSi. Not both. So don't go buying a card with 5000 Nintendo Points thinking you can split them between the two.

The new cards will start circulation in November in Japan. Other regions will have to wait till next year before they get their own.

Eh, some people are all butt hurt over this. I don't see the big deal. The two systems are obviously on completely different servers and can't talk to each other.

No big deal.

I was totally pissed about this for second and then I read ISOHaven's comment. Kind of right he is.

He's not. Not at all.

The issue is that Nintendo was f*cking stupid and decided not to give each Wii owner a UNIVERSAL account, like Xbox Live or PSN.

Each game has its own friend codes, for god's sake. That's a horrible way of designing an online service.

No really, it's no big deal. Just buy more of the smaller denomination cards. It's the EXACT same amount of money per point.

It's just an inconvenience. But after you spend the extra 30 SECONDS typing in the extra code, I think you'll get over it.

Nintendo keeps making worse decisions with their online community. I mean, what was the point of renaming "Wii Points" if they were still going to remain usable only for the Wii? I really don't think it would be that hard for them to make the points interchangeable . As I see it this is just a slightly pathetic ploy to get more money, so now for those people who buy the physical "Wii Points" cards at the store they now have to buy separate cards for each system where as if they were connected you could use the leftover points on one card for use on the other system. Say if you buy a 1000 point card (the smallest amount you can buy) and you want to buy a nintendo game off the VC and a DSi game, (assuming any of them will be 500 points) you can't. you have to just save up your leftover points for another wii game.

It's just really annoying that this company keeps ruining its potential with little limits like this. They make choices like internet play is a brand new technology: Wi-Fi, Friend Codes, limited to no multi-player options on a vast amount of games. How about some online play on VC games? That might make them worth buying since they are already more expensive than the actual thing.

Well that's annoying, not deal breaking but certainly something fanboys can grind on. Here's hoping for cross platform virtual console games.

Please stop being a Nintendo fanboy long enough to admit that it's a RETARDED idea to force people to use a different code for every game, and to lock a monetary code to a single system rather than a universal account.

I am a huge fan of Nintendo, have always been, and even I am disappointed - no, disgusted by Nintendo's decisions these days...

This is really screwed up - I should be able to share my Wii Points with my DSi, not have to buy separate cards for each.

This is just retarded - I own a PS3 and PSP, and my account is shared between them. Why can't Nintendo do their fans a favor and spend some extra time into implementing such a system?

Oh wait, I forgot...we're talking about Nintendo, the company that ALWAYS screws their loyal fans...

Their "hardcore" game for next year happens to be Animal Crossing...wow...

Thank god I own an Xbox 360, PS3 and a PSP.

Atleast Microsoft and Sony havent screwed me over.

Wow, more nonsense from the nonsense king!

"Probably not a big deal for most people."

Thanks for agreeing!

"But still, this is another dumb ass business decision by Nintendo."

Wow, you truly have no CLUE. You used the word BUSINESS in your comment? Why? You didn't explain AT ALL how this was bad for business. In fact you then continue to explain how it's a GOOD BUSINESS decision by TRYING to explain that people will need to buy MORE points. Sounds pretty good for business to me!

At any rate, instead of buying one big card just buy two small cards. I know that's hard for you to understand. But some day you'll learn to think on your own. If you own BOTH systems then odds are you'll need MORE points to begin with. So while I agree that the only person who TRULY loses out here is the guy that only wants ONE SMALL card, he/she has two systems and that wont be enough anyway.

"A loyal customer that actually downloads crap for both systems also has to buy 2 separate cards!"

Yup! That's an extra 2 seconds to pick up the second card. That is, if you're not skilled enough to grab two at the same time. Plus, an extra 2 seconds to ring up the second one. Wow, a whole 4 seconds removed from your life. What a spoiled POS you are.

"It's not just typing another code, it's having to buy more points on separate cards."

You can still get the same amount of points you idiot. So yeah, it's really just about typing in another code.

"Yes, if you download for both systems you WILL have to buy more points."

No, you don't. In fact, you can buy LESS points. Instead of having to get a 3000 point card you can just get two 1000 point cards. LEARN MATH YOU MORON!!!!

Most people buy mutiples of the 1000's as it is so they don't have to jump up to 3000 or 5000.

"Nintendo is greedy as hell, just admit it instead of always defending their greed."

You can't deny or admit what is not real.

im sorry what a total retarded ***** above me

i dont buy nintendo/wii points, because the wii/ds is *****, but anyway, and the software is worse

anyway

"Yes, if you download for both systems you WILL have to buy more points."

No, you don't. In fact, you can buy LESS points. Instead of having to get a 3000 point card you can just get two 1000 point cards. LEARN MATH YOU MORON!!!!

what a ***** you made of yourself

1000+1000+2000

1000 less than 3000, you *****in idiot

anyway he didnt say it was good for business, he might have implyed its good for direct business

but hes obviously pissed off, which might just lose nintendo a customer, now wouldnt it

so thats why its bad for business you little 3 year old child who cant look past the instant money is handed over

anyway to my main point

say you buy a 3000 point card

you may want to spend 2500 of that on the wii and the other 500

once again i dont purchase wii points, so there might be 500 point cards, but the theory is there

and to your original point if nintendo cant get basic infrastructure together inorder to make it possible THEN WHY SHOULD WE TRUST THEM TO MAKE CONSOLES

anyway ISOHAVEN im sick of having to comment back at you everytime, i didnt know it was you till i had too make eure the same guy posted the first message

you are a *****in *****, until you grow up and get more sense than a 3 year old DONT COMMENT

much bigger things come into play than the first handing of money

i may be pissed of at this, and a friend might ask me to choose a console for them, in which it has good online stores I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE WII THEN

get through your thick bloody skull, the last argument we had it went on for over a week, DONT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE UNTIL ANOTHER 20 YEARS in which hopefully youll have th emind of a 7 year old, and then maybe we can have a conversation

also A COMPANY THAT DOESNT GIVE CHOICE, SHOULDNT BE GIVING A SERVICE FACT!!!!

so it does matter

If this decision bothers you or not you still have to admit that Nintendo could have made the points usable on both systems, but they didn't, which is pretty stupid on some level either way. Also, you have to admit that Nintendo will be making a profit from this decision. keeping the points separate causes more points in total to be sold, whether it be for gifts, or self buying or whatever. If you buy one card, say the cheapest one which i believe is 1000 points, you can't spend half of it on wii and the other half on DSi. You are basically forced to spend 20 dollars to get two 5 dollar games. Plus renaming Wii Points into Nintendo Points seems to only cause confusion, since they will still be usable only on the Wii. If the two points are going to be separated by use than why not keep them Wii Points and make the other system's points DSi points?

@emcp - What the hell was that?

Most of that crap wasn't even readable.

1000 plus 1000 equals 2000. Very good!!! 2000 is LESS then 3000. VERY GOOD!!! Therefore you are able to spend LESS on two 1000 cards then buying a 3000 point card. Just like I said. Exactly what part of that did you not understand? Most people do that as it is.

@DocBrown - Absolutely. If the two systems were tied together it would be easier. No doubt. I never argued that. I was commenting on those people that are VERY UPSET about this news. I find THAT hilarious. I still disagree about Nintendo making more money. As I pointed out before, even more people will now buy two 1000's instead of the 3,000. But like I also said before those that want to buy just a 1000 will be out of luck. But honestly, with two systems 1000 wont last long.

Creating two different cards doesn't seems like it would help. All that would do is add a SKU and complicate inventory. What if they run out of one but have plenty of the other? Just let them use their Nintendo point cards for all Nintendo devices.

As for Mr. Common Douche Bag, he pirates games as it is so he doesn't even need Wii Points.

Give me a break and stop being a fanboy.

I can use the same points I use to get games on my 360 to buy MUSIC for my Zune. And I use ONE ACCOUNT on Xbox Live and PSN. Every single online Wii game I've ever seen has its own Friend Code, and you still need ANOTHER ONE just to send someone's Wii a message! It's f*cking retarded.

And how the hell do you think you're going to be able to buy smaller cards? They intentionally make the cards a slightly larger denomination than most games cost, so you wind up with extra but not enough to buy anything else!

Sweet CHRIST, look at all the Nintendo fanboys around here!

Nintendo makes an ass-backwards decision and anyone pointing it out gets their posts voted down into oblivion.

Meanwhile, the other fanboys who say that the people with GOOD SENSE are "spoiled rotten lazy asses" get 5 stars.

Quit sucking Nintendo's c*ck, kids.

"Give me a break and stop being a fanboy."

Give me a break and stop being a spoiled rotten lazy ass.

"I can use the same points I use to get games on my 360 to buy MUSIC for my Zune. And I use ONE ACCOUNT on Xbox Live and PSN."

And? What is your point? I never said it wouldn't be EASIER if they where tied together. Seems to me, you read my first post then ASSumed something and are now trying to defend it. Regardless of how ALL other console manufactures choose to handle this feature, Nintendo is not doing it in such a way to justify getting all BUTT HURT over it. Here you are "arguing" my initial comment which means you MUST agree that it is worth getting all BUTT HURT over it. I don't know, maybe you like your butt to hurt?

"Every single online Wii game I've ever seen has its own Friend Code, and you still need ANOTHER ONE just to send someone's Wii a message!"

I still don't know WTF you are tasking about. I've only played one game online (Mario Kart) and I never had to do as such.

"And how the hell do you think you're going to be able to buy smaller cards?"

Seriously? You don't understand this? Even after all the examples above? That's sad.

"They intentionally make the cards a slightly larger denomination than most games cost"

That's a bunch of BS. One card can pay for many games. Also, you can buy points online. So, that's a lot of crying for nothing.

Wrong again! This is why you get voted down:

"Quit sucking Nintendo's c*ck, kids."

Only jackass's make comments like that.

The fact remains that this is no big deal. Sure (as I've already said) it would be easier had they tied them together. But in the end, it really doesn't matter. No one is getting SCREWED by this.

We're talking about a friggen VIDEO GAME!!!! THANK GOD, this is all you have to cry about.
