It's not that it automatically makes you dumber. It's just that they noted that those addicted were more likely to be diagnosed with an attention deficit problem... ooh look balloon. Where was I? Oh yeah. The Harris Interactive study also found that that aside from performing poorly in school, the addicts are more likely to get into physical fights and are physically heavier than non addicts.
Not all studies have shown that videogame play is negative. A previous study conducted last year by Beth Israel Medical center in New York found that surgeons who played video games before participating in a performance test completed it more than 11 seconds faster than doctors who don't play games. Yes folks, problems solving skills, the ability to see connections, and overall hand-eye coordination. Classic stuff gamers have been spouting in defense of their passion.
So what's with the videogames makes you dumber title in the Digg post? Well, the guy who dug was just probably looking for diggs, and probably felt that a catchy title was needed.
Simple explanation for all of this: More time on videogames, less time to study, unless you're a freakin' genius you're bound to fail a test - any test - that you didn't study for. More time on videogames, less time for physical activity - well thank god for the Wii. And lastly, More time on videogames, means less time socially, meaning more time getting bullied and beaten up. There's your "physical fights" right there. I mean, if you came across the guy in the video below, wouldn't you want to beat some sense into him?
Oh, and ignore my simple explanation. I'm no expert.

I've heard this complaint many times but I can't find a link between stupidity and video games. I've learned many things from video games personally such as vocabulary (I remember playing OoT and "summoning" Epona). Also video games enhance ones ability to perceive things and really makes geometry a breeze.
when i was at school i never studied i mean never studied and i didnt get much sleep, the alcohol abuse can't of helped either but i still go 80% and 90% in all my subjects exept for english which i got 56% probebly becuse i was drunk at the time.
its 2 months at least. just like the xbox kid yelling at halo. this same thing xbox owners do. i think he rusian or german. it was translated also to figure out what he was saying
It's a German kid playing Unreal Tournament, screaming at the screen, "SCHNELL! Ich wünschen mein Unreal Turnierspeil!!" and then singing "Los, los los!!" when the game finally loads.
Honestly, that kid scares the hell out of me o_O
He probable is mentally ill, at the least he has ADD
ADD my ass, make learning more interesting and fun and you ll see kids studying more instead of playing games.

It's just a joke, he put a few videos on the internet where this little stupid kid tries to be a gangster. It is just a joke from him and it must NOT be taken seriously.

if you do not play video games at all, you will acts like these people. a very narrow scope of life, awful indeed. video do make people smart trust me, i'm grown up now, i may not accomplished big things for society but i know i have a big long common sense.

I've been a part of several internet communities over the last 15 yrs and as bad as it sounds the gamer community is probably the most dimwitted. The stuff that people post on some of these console forums is staggering. When I was a kid, being a gamer (old school, I'm in my 30s) meant that you were also a nerd. That pretty much guaranteed you actually knew something about technology. Not now. Gamers seem to have been relegated to rampant consumers. I'm not saying that all Gamers are stupid probably just the majority 8D
I'm 29 years old and been an advid gamer most of my life. Not all gamers are violent retards but l see a growing number of retards that pick up on gaming. Just because some people are like that doesn't mean we are all like that.

i kno a kid like that and hes black me and my cuzin beat his ass all the time for bein a ***** and throwin our controllers and vid game hate em basterds well the guy we kno is on meds tho.but like they help!(they dont)

I know just about every hard-core gammer in my school and i don't find this to be true. Most of my friends get in the 75-95 range w/ no connection to how much they play games. It is true however that gamers (and people who spend alot of time on the computer) tend to have a shorter attention span because they are used to multi-tasking and moving at a faster pace than classes in school do. Personaly I tend to get higher grades in classes other students find difficult because they hold my interest and allow less time for distraction.
I'm a student and also a gamer and i can tell you that is totally BS, most of the gamers in my classes are the ones who get higher scores on the test, the only reason that their grades get low is because of Homework, many of us prefer to play rather than homework
