UK totally bans all DS flashcarts |

Nintendo's effort to further eradicate the rampant software piracy on the DS seems to have paid off again this week as the London's High Court has ruled that the sale, advertising and import of any DS copying devices such as flashcarts is now totally illegal in the UK. Acording to UK gaming site Develop, "the high court set a new precedent by adjudging that it is illegal for the R4 card to circumvent Nintendo’s security systems in order to play content on the DS. This ruling impacts on emulator owners who have hitherto insisted that playing homebrew games on the DS is not piracy."
After the ruling, Nintendo released an official statement regarding the matter and said:
“Nintendo promotes and fosters game development and creativity, and strongly supports the game developers who legitimately create new and innovative applications. Nintendo initiates these actions not only on its own behalf, but also on behalf of over 1,400 video game-development companies that depend on legitimate sales of games for their survival”.
Nintendo claims they've seized over 100,000 game copying devices in the UK alone since 2009.

Perhaps it is different in the legal sense, but jailbreaking and flash cards are practically 100% the same in the "functionality" they give consumers.

For example. You buy the first iphone in a contract for two years. Contract states you have to use it with ATT. Ok fine. That's the price for paying close to nothing for the phone. But after the 2 year contract is over you own the phone outright. 100%. So you get to go to whatever carrier you want right? NOPE! That right there is the monopoly. Apple and ATT got sued over this.
So, unlocking is now legal. But in order to unlock you have to jailbreak. The fact that you can steal software is beside the point.

And for the GB/GBC/GBA games? They could still be in the second slot, if you ask me. /minidsirant
