Anno_1701 - Image 1 Ubisoft appears to be making expansion plans anew, as they announce their conclusions of an agreement to acquire the German publisher, SunFlowers. Due to their acquisition of SunFlowers, Ubisoft will be adding the Anno series of RTS games to its game library, along with a 30 percent stake of Related Designs - the developer responsible for the Anno 1701 game for the PC.

Related Designs is also working on a new Anno title, although no details are available at the moment. It will be noted that the Anno franchise as a whole  is reported  to have sold five million copies worldwide.

"I'm glad to confide Anno to Ubisoft, a company known for the innovation and creativity of its development teams. The brand will benefit from Ubisoft's global strength, allowing new audiences to discover the pleasure of empire building through new Anno games," said SunFlowers co-founder Mr. Adi Boiko regarding the deal.

It will be remembered that DS version of Anno 1701 is being prepared for release this June to the territories of Australia and New Zealand. Given Ubisoft's habit of releasing games for multiple platforms, we'll just have to wait and see where they plan to take one of Germany's more well-known games in the near future. Stay posted as this deal closes in Ubisoft's fiscal year 2007 to 2008 first quarter.
