Assassin's Creed - Image 1Paris-headquartered publisher Ubisoft said today that it welcomes the merger between giant publishers Activision and Vivendi, noting that it was a positive development for the industry.

Robert Cooper, managing director of Ubisoft UK, commented on the recent development, saying, "The merger does create an additional contender in the market, but itÂ’s a positive move."

Cooper, however, also took the opportunity to remind everyone that Ubisoft was "well placed" and did not need to worry about the new merger by both companies.

As an example, Cooper brings up the recent success of Assassin's Creed for the Microsoft Xbox 360, and Sony PlayStation 3. "We have shown that we more than ready to rise to any new challenge," he concludes.

Yesterday, third-party publishing leader Electronic Arts also expressed confidence in maintaining its market edge over the new industry power player. It looks like things are going to get tighter from here on out.
