Turn your DS into a multimedia powerhouse with MAX Media Dock

MAX Media DockDatel has sent out word that it's MAX Media Dock for the Nintendo DS and DS Lite can now be found on store shelves! It includes the exclusive MAX Media Player, enabling you to play MP3s, view JPEGs, and stream movies from a Compact Flash Card - supporting sizes up to 8GB!

However, what's really interesting is that Datel openly promotes the execution of homebrew software as a feature, with a support site online that points newbies to the right places to find homebrew games, emulators and software.

The MAX Media Dock is available in three versions - a cardless version that comes only with the Media Player and Media Dock, a 1GB CF Card version and a 2GB CF Card version. The different versions retail for £29.99, £54.99 and £84.99 respectively. If you're not in the UK, you can buy the MAX Media Dock in the CodeJunkies shop.

Datel's device seems to be a very versatile piece, and with the almost aggressively advertised homebrew support, it might open up the DS homebrew scene even for people who aren't familiar with it yet, thus increasing it's popularity.

To play backup games you would need the M3 adaptor

www.m3adapter.com or the Supercard, this will NOT run any commercial roms

lets put it this way..

The max media launcher that comes with the hard drive.. = awsome. you can use your Super card, m3.. basicly whatever. its better then having a large passme device sticking out of your ds. (i previously had a superpass 2)

however......

the hard drive.. is utter crap. currently the firmware on it doesnt really do anything.. if you upgrade it to 1.1 you will have the ability to run your mp3s

it relys on a old version of moonshell to play videos and mp3 and such.. and for some reason i still cant seem to upgrade moonshell for some reason.. but im sure its something im doing wrong

ive had a hard time getting several homebrews working

matter of fact i think the only one i did get working was a sonic break out game... and for some reason only the top screen was backlit... it didnt backlight my bottom screen..

i also have a navy blue DSL.

as for video quality.. ive been spoiled by PSPs video.. so i can say that the quality of the video is definatly low. however.. its still better then nothing.

mp3s sound good.. and you can actually use mp3s.. you dont have to convert them to a specific file like you did with the GBA movie player.

so overall.. the package is really only worth it for the max media launcher card.. which i believe is sold seperatrly.. and this is only if you have a current flash card

otherwise unless they improve the functionality of the HD.... i really kinda feel a tad ripped.

BTW this is also in the US. i bought mine at Best Buy

hmm...seems that they STOLE moonshell for use on the max media dock...

someone should complain to them for not giving credit to infantile paralysiser...

Not this clunky device.

Just get an M3 or a SuperCard MiniSD.

And If you don't want to get your DS flashed get one of the new PassCards. (They are the same size as a normal DS game so they don't stick out like a sore toe.

(You hear that number 4?!?! SAME SIZE AS A DS CART!)

I bought TWO of these at Best Buy yesterday fro 149.99, it has a 4GB HDD and the Media Launcher(PassMe ) Card and a USB cable...this Thing CAN Play: Movies, MP3s, Pictures, and Some Homebrew games, while it does also play Commercial roms I ask you not to use it for that otherwise the DS will die quick....for testing it only I loaded Mario Cart DS and it works...but again I ask you to not buy this for commercial roms becuase its wrong.

because of the hard drive access speed.. the DS backups tend to lag a lil.

i say the card that comes with it is the best part.. the HD to me is useless

The Max Media Player is for scene noobs. Might as well just get an M3/Supercard and be done with it.

Does this only go into the DS port, leaving the GBA port free?

Or is this exactly like the passme/GBA flash cart combo?
