Jack Thompson - Image 1Activist lawyer Jack Thompson has expressed in a recent press release his belief that there is a hidden motive behind the gaming industry's links with the Department of Defense. He says that all of this may be geared towards the creation of perfect soldiers.

Thompson says that violent games are made to train "an entire generation of kids that war is glamorous, cool, desirable, and consequence-free." He then links this conclusion with shooting incidents in American campuses like Columbine and Virginia Tech.

A collusion between the Department of Defense and the game industry is what Thompson's latest release wants to prove. The military, however, denies the theory.

"First-person shooter games really don't apply in this environment," answers the U.S. Joint Forces Command through its simulation and modeling head Jim Blank. His explanation is then supported by key personalities such as Serious Games Summit creator Ben Sawyer.

"We have not yet perfected that hybrid version of game-simulation," Sawyer points out as he explains the incompatibility of military training with commercial video games. He explains that video games are developed to entertain and not to train soldiers.

Gamers may remember that video games like the Metal Gear Solid series have touched on issues related to virtual reality being used to train perfect soldiers like one of its characters Raiden. The military acknowledges using similar methods for training, but maintains that it has nothing to do with mainstream gaming.

» He's An Insane Hypocrite!

Jack Thompson talks like he knows what the good games are all about. He's probably just mad because he can't pass the good ones and starts yelling at the screen calling them evil. Keep trying Jacky. One of these days you might see the ending to Pitfall, if you can beat it in the 20 minute time limit. Ha, ha, ha!

» The man is a genius

He really is a genius, who is just looking out for the better god of all humanity. He'll go down in history alongside people like Martin Luther King, Che Guevara, Ghandi, and Nelson Mandela. He is definitely right about this one...I have no idea why no one takes him seriously

» Wow.

Jack, you dumb sack of *****. When will you learn that you're never going to make any sort of "positive" impact on the video game industry. You'd do well to pack up your little lawsuit papers and be on your way.

Oh, and don't bring Virginia Tech into this, the guy didn't even have any f#cking video games, you idiot. It's like you're sitting at home with the news on, police scanner on full blast, and a laptop at the ready for typing up your little jokes you call "cases". You're give lawyers a bad name, and their names were horrible to begin with.

Man, does he never give up?!

He has no clue what is going on in his own country. The shootings had nothing to do with "an entire generation of kids that war is glamorous, cool, desirable, and consequence-free."

The kids were treated awfully their schools and they had no friends. They were seriously mental damaged, whether they played violent video games or not. When does he get that finally?!

But this time he has gone too far. This is really pissing me off now. Now he even wants to make Metal Gear Solid bad.

They are one of the best games ever. Seriously, this time it ain't no fun anymore.

» good guy fanatic

This guy is just plain stupid but dangerous. Stupid as almost everyone from 7 to 70 can see straight through his arguments and theories of collusion. Dangerous because he is a fanatic and in my book all fanatics are unbalanced and mentally unstable which is why fanatics do such damage in this world regardless of colour creed or culture.

Seriously? He's serious? I've heard some dumb conspiracy theorists before, but damn. This "man" is a lawyer/activist no longer. Now he's just a bored dumb ass conspiracy theorist with nothing better to do but ***** and moan about how his child was able to break the law, and come up with ridiculous theories out of nowhere...

» It's actually true....

the U.S government has been planning this ever since the conception of Area 51.

Once they discovered that aliens do exist and that the threat of an invasion is real, they needed a way to desensitize us to aliens and violence. They started this with bugs bunny....

Now with the advent of realistic video games they can desensitize the public to the thought of aliens and make us comfortable with killing them....as well as teach us basic tactics and improve out hand eye co-ordination.

Why do you think the vast majority of games have players saving the world from aliens, and the rest have you using real world weapons to engange the enemy.....

Now, to wait for the invasion....I know i'm ready!!!

» WTF....

What in gods name are you talking about. That cartoon has nothing to do with this. GTFO.

In agreement here, if others cannot see the fun in your comment so what. I think your theory has as much merit as that of thompson and when the aliens come I have been practicing with the help of Master chief and timeshift.

Damm shame it took me two days to come back and find your comment as we could have helped with laying out some basic kisk alien butt strategy.
