It's that time of the week again, so here's your week's recap of all things Nintendo. This batch is a little heavy on the Wiixclusives, starting with Final Fantasy IV: The After Years stirring up quite a buzz with its multiplayer support and rumored June 1 release. There's also a lot of buzz surrounding the latest Time 100 list, which apparently got hacked to spell out a message. Now we're not quite sure if the rest of that list actually means something, or if we just have a list full of random names. Anyway, we've got updated emulators in the bunch too, so be sure to click that link and check out this week's Nintendo Weekend Warrior.

Game NewsFinal Fantasy IV: The After Years - Image 1
  • The direct sequel to Final Fantasy IV, The After Years sounds like your typical single-player RPG. But hold yer horses, the Final Fantasy IV: The After Years official site reveals that this WiiWare-exclusive will have support for up to four players, adding a new twist for an unlikely candidate. Link. But wait, there's more! Rumor has it that this baby may come out as early as June 1st, bypassing the whole GDC-teasing that Square Enix does oh-so-well. Link
  • Speaking of June releases, the Capcom Captivate 09 event revealed that Resident Evil Archives, the GameCube remake of the original Resident Evil. So a remake gets a Wiimake, huh? Link
  • For the Wii-exclusive Red Steel 2, the release might be coming in the loot bag of a jolly old sleigh-rider, with the announcement that Ubisoft's first MotionPlus-supported game is to come out in the holidays. Link
  • Red Steel 2, however, won't be the only Ubisoft project for the Wii. With the new trademark filed by the publisher, it looks like Driver: Parallel Lines will be succeeded by Driver: The Recruit. Link
  • Got all nostalgic with Driver? Here's a deeper trip down memory lane. Dragon Ball Kai for the Nintendo DS brings us a trailer showing the humble and non-overpowered beginnings of Dragon Ball Z and Goku's first adventures as an adult, which includes taking on big bro Raditz. Piccolo and the other Z Soldiers are not yet cannon fodder for enemies here, so you can still enjoy their skills before the insanely powerful ones arrive. Link
Nintendo News:Time 100 - Image 1
  • After coming up at the top of Time Magazine's list of 100 most influential people from various fields and industries last year, Nintendo's gaming mastermind, Shigeru Miyamoto, drops to #42 of Time 100. The list, however, got rigged, throwing the entire list into question. Reading the first letters of the first 22 entries of the list spells out "Marble Cake, also the game." But rigged or not, that didn't stop people from giving their own critique about the people who made it to the list. Link
  • The Wii is out of the closet - no, we're not saying that the Wii is qWiir, but Satoru Iwata defends the motion-sensing machine a week after Sony said it "owns the closet." With an emphatic FYI and stats to boot, Iwata proves that the Wii success is not wee-success. Link
  • One thing that Sony and Nintendo do have in common, though, is that this year's E3 is gonna be big, definitely big enough to pack a punch stronger than Sony's vocabulary when talking about its rivals. The publishers' bigwigs all give their piece on a gaming event that they all recognize to be an avenue to shine. Link
Homebrew NewsScummVM - Image 1
  • The point-and-click adventure emulator, ScummVM came with a hefty bugfix release earlier this week, correcting some known issues, crashes, and bugs that kept gamers from enjoying their golden oldies. This version cleaned up Gob, Groovie, Parralaction, SAGA, Sword 2, as well as the support for the iPhone and DS versions. The Wii, DS, PSP, and iPhone versions are now relatively squeaky clean and are available for download. Link
  • ScummVM isn't the only one with multiplatform support this week. The emulator, iDeaS gained GameBoy Advance support last time, and now it got a number of bugfixes for its new feature. This release, however, still has a buggy audio plugin, so you might as well use the older release for now. Link

Well now, that was a mouthful, wasn't it? Hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed writing. Catch the warrior again next week for your weekly recap.
