The DS browser only available through online purchase - Image 1It was announced that the Opera-developed Nintendo DS Browser for the original DS will only be available via online purchase. The DS Lite version will be available at retail shops with preorders being sold for about US$ 34.99. Not bad, considering that it might actually be convenient to access the web via the DS, but we probably would still prefer to use our laptops when surfing.

A Nintendo representative told GameSpot that "a version of the Web browser for the original Nintendo DS will be available online, while a version for Nintendo DS Lite will be available at retail." While the company has not given out word on which sites are licensed to sell the browser, they have announced that they will be carrying it in their website, so you can be sure to get the real thing.

This is not a new marketing strategy, *cough Electroplankton cough* but it makes us wonder about the feasibility of the whole thing, as this whole online exclusivity may hamper the sales of the product. Still, it's not that Nintendo can't afford it, given the great financial numbers they've released to the public recently. The product is slated to be out on June 4, so watch out for it.

Oh do be quiet...

At least Nintendo don't try and nerf homebrew every five seconds like those whores at Sony. F'ing ridiculous. You can keep your stupid unprotected screen, finger print attracting paperweight thanks. Glad they've announced this. Getting more than a little annoyed with the way all accessory manufacturers seem to have forgotten the original DS.

.

While the DS is outselling the PSP 3 to 1... Nearly 4 to 1 now. I have a PSP. But seriously. DS games > PSP games.

Sony's latest patch killed the PSP

That's the only reason the PSP is $169.99 and no included memory card. Stores are trying to close out their PSP sections because SURPRISE! Nobody wants one now!

I've seen the original DS one in stores in Glasgow. So, there's that one disproven.
