TGS 2006: first look at Front Mission 1st |
Ó
Square Enix has finally released a demo for Front Mission 1st at their TGS booth. Duringthe demo, it can be noted that the conversation between the pilots are in Japanese, but the list of options and the names of the weapons are in English. Could this mean that Square Enix is considering a North American release? There is currently no information about this as of yet, but in case the game does ship to the US, then it will be the first-ever Front Mission game to be released in English. For those who havenever played a Front Mission game, Front Mission 1st is all about strategy. The player will be in charge of wanzers, or mechs, which are caught up in a battle between the Oceana Community Union and the United States of New Continent. The demo at the Tokyo Game Show showed how players can actually finish the game using the stylus alone. Also, the game provides detailed close-up views of the models and the environments. One will learn that getting the mechs hit on their arms or legs actually impedes their movement or may cause them to lose weapons. These points will have to be discovered, however, as they were not indicated in the demo.
Again, apart from the fact that the game will be released in winter, we still don't have any information regarding a possible release outside of Japan. We'll post the updates as soon as we get hold of them, though, so stay tuned!

Comments
This won't be the first ever Front Mission game released in US or Europe, actually was FM3 for PSOne, and later FM4 for PS2 in US only
Most (if not all) entries in the Front Mission series have had English menus/battle options in their Japanese releases, so no reason to get hopes high for an English release without any official statements or screenshots of actual dialogue in English.
