SylphAMP v0.03 Rolled Out

Ficedula is back with an update for his homebrew application for the Nintendo DS. His app, SylphAMP has been updated to version 0.03. Just in case you're in the dark about this amp, SylphAMP is a Winamp-to-NDS interface; install it in WinAmp as an output plugin and all the audio is streamed to a DS on the local network rather than sent to the speakers. Basically, this app makes your DS a more versatile device!

The developer just has this to say: "bear in mind this is an early alpha-style release with possibly the most horrific UI in existence. And it isn't very functional either. But if you want to stream MP3s and so on from WinAmp to your DS, it just about manages that most of the time ;)"

To know the instructions on how to use it, just click on the readme that will come with your download. For now, here is the changelog:

    -Turn backlights off when DS is closed
    -Option: passthrough to another Winamp output plugin
    -Option: downsample audio to mono (on the PC)
    -Send playlist straight away when DS connects
    -Stop & display error messages if unable to connect to network
    -Fix flickering on playlist

The developer is also looking at some issues that would be resolved in the following updates of the app. He says that "in theory you could connect to your home PC via the internet. In practice I haven't tried this...You'd need to forward port 9883 from the router to the PC running Winamp; it also needs an absolute minimum of 200Kbit upstream from the PC to the DS to work in mono, preferably a bit more, or 384-400Kbit for stereo."
