Square Enix - Image 1We just picked up a bit of interesting gossip, courtesy of the folks at NeoGAF. Apparently, gaming giant Square Enix recently registered the title "Lord of Vermillion" with the Japanese Patent Office. Of course, combine a gaming company and the Japanese Patent Office, and you have some juicy possibilities for a new game.

The "Lord of Vermillion" monicker was registered on September 27, 2007, and as you can probably guess, there's barely any information on this potential game, much less any announcement of an actual game using the name itself.

Still, it's fair game to go and speculate about such things, if only to bring the excitement to a fever pitch. Some of the current speculations include a new Final Fantasy XI sequel or a follow up to the 1989 video game Sword of Vermilion (note the missing L, however, in the title). What say you? Do you think it'll be a new game in the works and if so, what platform do you think that potential game will be headed to?
