Wow, there are lots of new game announcements (leaks?) in this week's crop of Japanese gaming mags. We've seen God Eater and Minna no Sukkiri -- both for the PSP. Now here's one for the DS: a new Final Fantasy game laid bare in the new Weekly Shonen Jump issue.

Yes, this is the new game that Square Enix has been teasing us about for the past few days. It's called Hikari no Yon Senshi: Final Fantasy Gaiden, which translates to Four Warriors of Light: Final Fantasy Gaiden. Roght now the teaser site has two characters on the dragon, so expect two more to show up soon.

This DS RPG puts players in the shoes of a 14-year old boy who has to save a kidnapped princess. Sounds just like the first part of Final Fantasy where the Light Warriors had to rescue Princess Sara from Garland, except this time the kidnapper's a witch.

According to IGN's translation of the Famitsu piece, the game seems to follow the standard four-person party, menu-driven RPG style. There's no MP gauge but there's a "Charge" command beside the Fight and Item commands. Equipment changes also result in a change in your character's appearance. Always nice, that.

Hikari no Yon Senshi: Final Fantasy Gaiden is slated for a Fall release in Japan. Oh, if you're in the mood for some classic 8-bit music, check out the Square Enix teaser site.

» dunno

Well seems nice, "Gaiden" I think means alternate game/story, as non-canonic

» Canon?

Is there a such thing as canon in the world of Final Fantasy lol Each iteration has nothing to do with the previous

also, im kinda getting fussy with SE making an ISH load of games for the DS, but no love for the PSP! The PSP is pretty big in japan, why wont they release something for it?
