Well I own both. The psp definitely is better...the only game i like for DS is advance wars.



But the psp emulation makes it godlike compared to the Earthbound DS.



It's ironic that the psp has access to WAY more nintendo library titles by way of homebrew. It's also ironic that the DS freezes more while playing mario 64 (the homebrew daedalus is more stable than the commercially manufactured DS).

I happen to own both a DS and a PSP, and whilst the PSP may be technologically superior to the DS, the truth is PSP games suck. Mostly PSP games are just scaled down PS2 games.



I reckon the majority of PSPs sold today are due to the effort put in by the likes of DAX, the Noobz team, etc. But it has been proven that hardware specs and hackability don't sell consoles like having a library of good software to go with it. This happens to be the case with the DS, not everyone uses homebrew/ISOs like the most of us here, but is those who don't that are the majority and they just play games, simple as that.



Nintendo's theory on how they would market the Wii has worked, sell a console at nearly or less than half the price of its competitiors, add a bucketload of games and you will get sales. The same you could say applies to the DS.



Whilst the DS may not be as good for homebrew like the PSP, it doesn't have those master hackers we PSP owners have all come to worship as true gods.



And also add the fact PSPs can have homebrew running at zero cost without having to fork out for flashcarts and passcards, like you need for the DS. You also need memory cards like you do with a PSP, but last time I checked, SD/CF cards are still s***loads cheaper than MS Pro Duos.



But like it was said each machine has its merits, and all you fanboys can just eat s*** and die for all I care. It is more than likely most fanboys have never tried other consoles, even though they claim to, they are just natural born tossers and nothing will ever change that, ever.

if you think all PSP games are ports go look at Super Mario 64 DS, Star Fox DS, Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing. Have you noticed these were all games on N64 and AC was on Gamecube.

So what if the DS doesn't have your favorite console games scaled down on the go. Personally many people would rather have something different, pick up and play, whatever...originality on the go. Not to say the PSP doesn't have it, but it didn't for the most part for quite awhile, and even now while there are enough games to merit the buy they aren't things that are so unique it screams got to have one to the average joe. This could somewhat well be said about the DS too so don't take such offense, but it does have going for it the unique control aspect when you find a game that uses it well. And even beyond that you do get those 1st and 2nd party titles you'd never see on a PSP, not many of those out of camp Sony as they've never been huge on that stuff mostly 3rd party.



Why not just agree to disagree and take the whiny crap and roll back over to the PSP site and have your fun there with it. Coming here to troll just shows you have issues and no matter what is said will NEVER convince someone to agree with you that doesn't already.

Just want to say this is on the psp site too(so it's probably just an article merged on both sites). In the end it all really depends on what your taste in games is, not which one has more uniqe games or more scaled down games then the other. I mean, it just depends on what kind of games you like. If you like kiddy(not trying to be offensive, just how they are to me) interactive games, go with nintendo, if you like serious, violent, exciting, adrenalin(don't know how to spell that) building games go with sony. That's how it is with me, I used to play nintendo games before sony came along and they were fun to me then, but now they arn't really the funnest to me. I like games like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Star Ocean: Till the end of time. But it won't really matter which console I choose since Square Enix is becoming more and more multiplatform. Anyway, Sony is just struggling lately. People say it's the price that is bringing the PSP down but I think that's just the little problem. I mean there are fun games already for it, I like most of them, but to other people(like read above), some think they stink. I mean sony is struggling with the PS3(which I want one, but it's too much money...I'm only 14, I can't save up $600. Hopefully they can find away to compact the parts or find a cheaper way of building the system. Maybe find a good way to mass produce it and they can probably knock it down to like $400. That's what the PSP is, basically a scaled down version of PS2 with a better CPU(well, it's set at 222MHz while the PS2 is 300MHz but like a lot of people do, the PSP is capable of 333MHz), and the XMB with more features. It's a portable better version, with the exception of the missing analog sticks and L2, R2, L3, and R3 buttons. But it can still be a good system. Sony just needs help getting on it's feet.

i've dropped my psp like 50 times. once onto concrete and all i got was a minor scratch on the back. meanwhile my friend dropped his ds once and the top screen broke. plus if you mess up the screen you can easily replace the faceplate so it looks like new

Yeah, kinda the same here in the UK. This place used to be DS country but everyone who used to have a DS seemed to have moved on to the PSP now. The UK+Europe still pretty much remains Sony country.

I've never laughed harder in my life. PSP is suddenly better because so many illegal uses can be implemented, sorta how everyone has to resort to pirating, and what better system to do all that? The PSP.

I have both, ahhahaha.

I remember when the DS came out, and I decided to get it instead of waiting for Sony's PSP, and I've trusted the Nintendo handhelds for awhile. That right there directed me to be more biased against Sony once I saw the machine, claiming basically everything that wasn't true. For instance, I thought that nearly every game was a port- graphics were just barely better than a ps1 - it could only handle a 32 meg mem stick and your top 5 songs , and ect. Even the times they showed me their PSP's and games, I basically just shuned out the beauty it had to offer, and always told them crap like "Well, the psp may be "an okay system" the DS's touch screen and new great games are just way better than what the PSP has to offer." Anyways, I finally got one in June last year, and well, like many other DS fanboys say the other way around, I have rarely touched my DS since. Sure, I respect the handheld and the company that produced it, but when I had the choice to either get a DS Lite or a PSP, I decided, "Hey, I can get just a slight upgrade to what I got, or two handhelds to go with." And I was really looking forward to MGS:PO too.





So I got it along with MGA2 and Daxter, and I was basically blown away. Not only did the graphics exceed my expectations, but I was blown away with the crisp and clear audio it had, along with the beautiful, and quite big(for a handheld of course) LCD screen. All the other times I played one, I just ignored it and well, told myself DS was better. At times, I believe it was because of the price, and I thought I wouldn't be getting one, so I just looked straight passed it. Before I got it as well though, I heard it could play emulators for systems like Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo, but I also thought it was too good to be true. Alas though, with 1.5/Custom firmware, you can play tons of games, and since the end of Dec, PSX games as well. Come on, anyone who just owns a DS tell me you would rather be playing FF3 than FF7-9/Tactics/FF1-2-4-5-6....yeah, kinda thought not. It's the other features as well which I thought helped the portable experience become better with the PSP. I never owned an IPod, or really many other portable music/video/pic devices, so I loved the PSP that much more. The internet is good for some things as well on it, and although you may not be able to watch videos on a lot of sites, you can still browse and read around. Anyways, back to my original point.





Being biased for things, well, stupid. And although I may not use my DS as much, or at all anymore, it still has it's good points, but one of the really big reasons I wanted to switch to PSP is because DS didn't offer anything mature, aside from Resident Evil 1, which was a port with some new features for the DS(and of course you can play better on a PSP). With the MGS franchise, DBZ Budokai, and FF going with it, especially when it's like that of a PS2, along with a series of other great titles, it's hard not to like the PSP now. For those stuck in the past, please join us to the present. Seriously, for those so biased against it, please look up your facts first. The psp has tons of high quality titles, along with the DS. Now, what you can really argue about is what do you want more? I'm pretty sure that most DS users that claim to have owned a PSP really haven't at all.







Overall, I think with Custom Firmware, the PSP is overall better than the DS, but standard, it can still stack up against it. Anyways, what I'm bascially trying to say, is don't be biased like lots of people were with game gear. In fact, this reminds me so much of the Gameboy VS. GameGear war, but this time the competitor has a few more tricks up their sleves. Along with all that, for people still thinking the DS can do most of the homebrew features, no, just no. PSP can handle near full or perfect speed to NES/GENESIS/GB-C-A/SNES/NEOGEN-C/PSX/ect. But yeah, give each system a chance and all. I am looking forward to see how Pokémon Diamond/Pearl is for the DS, but right now, hot titles aren't going to be popping up as frequ

I bought a DS two months ago and so far I'm very disappointed with the games. I'm tired of spending money on games only to find out I don't like them. I've bought Superman, King Kong, Metroid, Castlevania and Splinter Cell. All sucked. I asked the guy at EBgames to suggest some good DS games and he showed me a goddamn Mario game. It's like hey dude, do I look like I'm 9 years old? I'm not done with the DS yet, Im going to try Hotel Dusk and see how that goes.



Ive ordered a psp though. The gameplay videos Ive seen for SOCOM, Metal Gear, GTA and others just blow away anything I've seen on DS. Not to mention the homebrew stuff looks way cool. I know the DS is more popular than the PSP but I just don't see how.

i wonder how the DS can be beating the psp. I thinks its the same thing that happened with the GBA. I used to be a Nintendo fan and had owned every single one of their consoles (very disappointed with my cube...) However i've aways been a portable man, so i loved my GBA the most. Yet i think that the gba was ultimately ruined by little kids! Its true it sold a ton but everywhere i go i saw 8 year olds playing it. Personally i got too emberaced to play it in public. And what annoyed me the most was that these stupid little kids would buy stupid titles like spongebob or barbie or watever. the same can be seen with the DS. Games like nintendogs and animal crossing are selling like hotcakes! And who buys them? Little kids (or adults living in the past...) The DS is for younger and simpler minds! The psp has taken the love i had for my gba (and i can still play gba games on there, "high five"-in borat accent). Also the ds price attracts parents, which buy it for their kids. i think that psp's are for the teen/young adult crowd. It's much too complicated for little kids and thats why it doent sell as well. But considering the audience it targets the psp is doing extremely well! And the new price drop will probably help it sell even better. This has been the rant of a teenager who hates little kids!

Well. I have to say that I have both consoles. I have been to video games for over 30 years now, and more or less have every console in existence- And to be honest with you, the PSP is one of the most absolute, greatest consoles of all time, if not- the greatest.



I will start my rant. First, I bought a DS lite. A month after the year release- in fact. Why? I don't go for nintendo, because they have children's games everywhere. their adverts are annoying, and quite frankly, I prefer sony.



But this is not the reason that I am downing the DS. it has some relatively fun games, such as Star Wars:Episode III, Metroid: prime hunters and Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training(all which I have owned).



But, the DS is tacky. They break a lot easier than the PSP and this annoyed me. My problem, was that my instruction booklet for the console was for some reason in japanese, and the English language section didn't come with instructions on how to put the wristband on. So, I ended up putting it on wrong and then the console fell off of the wristband and it hit the floor with a thud. ={



Guess what happened? The hinge broke. the console still fully worked, it's just the hinge broke. and in about three months the console was reduced to nothing but a Gameboy Advance, because the top screen did not function anymore at all.



So, I had on broken DS lite and a shiny fully working PSP at the same time, and at this point I had a PSP for about a year. And surprisingly enough, it was shiny, and had hardly any scratches. So, the PSP is much more durable we know, now.



Secondly, the PSP is much better in terms of interactivity and can even be hacked into. Myself? I have custom firmware 3.03 OE-C, and I can run homebrew. normally, I can view pictures and watch videos, and listen to my favorite songs, and play brilliant release titles, such as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories and LocoRoco, and Metal Gear Ac!d, the list goes on forever.



The DS on the other hand takes cartridges, Miniature cards in a matter of speaking, which are much easier to lose than UMD's(which the PSP takes) and can hold a hell of a lot less than UMD's too.



The DS may have one unique feature, it's touch screen, But the stylus is horrible to work with. if your stylus is damaged slightly on the tip, then it can heavily scratch your screen and seriously piss you off. It did me, and I only had it about 3 months!



The PSP has a lot more features. you can browse the net and even update to Sony's newest firmwares, or download custom one's and enjoy hacks. The pathetic DS cant even connect to a computer. It just isn't good.



PLUS- The forums are a *****load better on the internet for PSP than the ***** DS. The PSP is better.



And what the hell is this *****e about low battery for the PSP? All of us know that the PSP has about 6-8 hours of battery on it. the DS shouldn't even be used. so I think that the battery life arguments are just a waste of complete time, because the batteries in DS consoles shouldn't exist. Neither should the entire console, or even Nintendo.



So what do we now know? well, nintendo are crap and produce little kiddies games, whereas Sony are brilliant and produce amazing games, and R rated games, Gory games and don't annoy you with "It's me! Mario!" and "Pikachu! I choose you!". The PSP has a LOT more features and higher interactivity, the wireless feature is better, and there are more buttons to press, which = more fun.



PLUS- The forums are a *****load better on the internet for PSP than the ***** DS. The PSP is better.
