Shigeru Miyamoto banned by Nintendo from speaking about his hobbies |
Ó
The Times Online is reporting that Nintendo has banned Shigeru Miyamoto from talking about his hobbies. How come? Well, it's because Miyamoto's ideas can cost the company billions in revenue. According to the Times article, it's because some of Nintendo's biggest and most lucrative projects have come from the mind of Miyamoto and the things that preoccupies his days. If he talks about his hobbies with reporters, people could latch on to them prior to their development with Nintendo and cash in on Miyamoto's thoughts.
Banning a guy from speaking his mind seems a bit harsh, but we can understand Nintendo's reasoning. We do hope that Miyamoto comes up with better inventions and ideas that improve the gaming world, because it's nice to see something new and innovative hitting the scene.

So he no longer has the same human rights as the rest of us?
exactly, bull***** i cant believe they banned him for speaking his mind...
nintendo sucks guys. only reason they do ok is because they hold onto the franchises that matter, mario, zelda, metroid, starfox and .. oh thats it. (unless you count kirby)
all wii is was a gamecube with a new look and a new controller. why havent the other consoles made motion sensative point and click remotes yet?!?
is he fired?
I don't know, why don;t you ask nintendo, surely they'll let you know, after all, they're so gratefull for all the information you send to th- oh wait...
no one said anything about him getting fired, he's just not allowed to talk about his hobbys to reporters or whatever...
I have to wonder how old people are who post crazy comments.
He's not having his human rights violated, he's just not allowed to talk to the press about his ideas. It's a basic non-disclosure clause, don't talk to the public about your work until the company has revealed it as a product.
Miyamoto is a game designer, and as such his ideas are property of Nintendo until he quits, is fired, or dies. I certainly hope none of those three happen anytime soon, the man is a genius.
My opinion, I'm allowed to have it. I will not respond to flame bait calling me stupid for having said opinion. You are free to disagree with me, but aren't worth my time if you feel the need to insult me.
Fact of the matter is, exactly what Victor B. wrote. Nintendo doesn't want undeveloped ideas blabed to the media. They have enough trouble trying to fight off patent trolls, they don't need an employee actually giving patent trolls more detailed ammunition.
Spot on mate.
A. The Wii is more powerful then the game cube.
B. Sixaxis? That is motion sensitive. Which also has no a in it.
C. Capitalization of the first letter in every sentence.
"A. The Wii is more powerful then the game cube."
... No.
To quote the Persian messenger from 300: "this is blasphemy, this is madness!"
The Wii is actually TWICE as powerful as the Gamecube, but since it's getting sh1tty PS2 ports instead of original titles, it doesn't seem that way to most people.
NDAs should be made illegal.
Yes. Can you read? Do you know how to count?
Gamecube CPU 486 MHz Wii CPU 729MHz
Gamecube GPU 162 MHz Wii GPU 243 MHz
Notice the difference in numbers there?
the Wii has twice the amount of processing power as the PSP....
It's basically an Overclocked Gamecube, and not only does it lack 720p support, but it doesn't have 5.1, something the Xbox Original had.
Nint take the piss, they were profitting of the Gamecube when it was dropped to only 60 in the market, makes me sick to think that it costs more than the 360 and lacks all HD content.
And I absolutely hate the Wiimote, probably because I take games more seriously and feel that reaction bases Wiimote Waggling is s2pid and it doesn't make a difficult game.
Ninja Gaiden Wii? if they Managed to get a direct port from the 360 version on it's hardware, Itagaki would have done it, but not only is it too weak even though Ninja Gaiden II doesn't have the best graphics ever- it also doesn't have a user-base that is willing to learn a game hard enough to complete it on Master Ninja +D
Most people i know do not have 5.1 setups or TV's capable of displaying those kinds of resolutions.
Which is Nintendo's point.
If you hate the Wiimote don't use it. Simple as that.
The Wiik might be crappy but so is the RRODBox 360. The PS3 is definitely the way to go. After all, if you can afford a home theatre setup and 5.1 surround sound I think you can afford a PS3...
Slam dunk.
Yeah well said
mr_bigmouth_502 . NDAs are how business is done in the highly technical and competitive world we live in. So are Non-Compete Clauses.
How would you feel if you owned a company, spent hundreds of thousands of dollars training and paying an employee only to have them jump ship taking their training and ideas with them? You'd be pretty pissed.
How would you feel if you spent millions developing the next big thing, but because one of your employees blabed about it to the press someone else patented the idea first (even though it wasn't originally theirs) and sat waiting to ambush you with a patent violation suit when your product became a huge success.
Guess what! Microsoft and Sony use these too. I've had to sign NDAs for beta testing. I've had to sign NCCs for some of my past employment. I especially had to do this for some highly technical temp jobs.
This is the way the world works. There is nothing illegal about it, nobody is forcing you to sign it. You make a choice; either you want the job and sign the agreements or you refuse the job and seek employment elsewhere. Your not an indentured servant if you do sign, but you have to live with the consequences if you decide to quit or violate the terms of the agreement.
These are all choices every potential or active employee is free to make.
You make choices daily. Every choice has a result and a consequence. Having a choice is not illegal but the choice you make could be.
A quote with absolutely no context. How is the relevant?
I made nintendo millions of dollars.. Then one day I opened my mouth for an interview.. (why would people interview me and ask me questions? Im only the godfather of video games) after that I was promptly ejected from the only job Ive ever had. it was a crappy job anyway.. things like fame and fortune are useless.
If you people can't see that Nintendo is getting rid of him, and using this as the reason.. well then you are blind.
I bet he either costs more than he currently produces.
or he pissed someone off.
Or his image (which has grown and possibly overshadowed the precious Mario) isn't one that the company sees as representative of its interests.
in any case... Don't kid yourself into thinking that its his letting people what his hobbies are...
LOL.
I think I'll keep a healthy skepticism about that.
Nintendo would be stupid to fire one of their best designers who's ideas sell well. So well, in fact, that the manufacturing facilities have trouble meeting the demand.
If Miamoron only had talked about his stupid hobbies like weighing himself earlier, Microsoft could have come up thier own line of crap accessories like Wii Fit!
If only he talked about his music lessons earlier, Microsoft could have made a stupid music minigame (that has nothing to do with real instruments or how to play them.)
Nintendo was wise to shut him up!
Besides, nobody wants his retarded ideas on either of the real game consoles!
