The Golden Compass - Image 1Sega and New Line Cinema are preparing for their cooperative effort to bring The Golden Compass this December to audiences everywhere, and the Japanese publisher says all is going well in its campaign to emulate the kind of appeal that The Lord of The Rings had. The Lord of the Rings enjoyed tremendous success with its movie, merchandising, and gaming portfolios, leaving everyone else in a quest to follow where the franchise has gone.

Sega has made it clear that it's on a mission to tread the very same path and said that "Lord Of The Rings was a fantastic success which not only delivered for the core book fans but also managed to appeal to a wider cinema going audience."

"The great thing about The Golden Compass is that the story can be appreciated by all age groups," continues Sega. "New Line is targeting eight to 80 year-olds for their movie advertising – the best possible audience."

Sega plans to release The Golden Compass in nine different SKUs with a light theme aimed towards the more casual gamers. The story is based on the nook Northern Lights which tells the story of a girl named Lyra who sets out to rescue her kidnapped friend. She is aided by Pentalaimon, her Daemon and other interesting characters whom she meets along the way. Dakota Blue Richards and Freddie Highmore star as the voices of Lyra and Pentalaimon respectively.

» DONT GET GOLDEN COMPASS

its an evil book an evil game, an evil movie. I'm normally not all "OMG UNRELIGIOUSSTUF F!" but this is seriously sick, just read the snopes page:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp

Quote: the author once said he wanted to "Kill god in the hearts of children."

You say that like its a bad thing?

» Thanks for the link

Now that I know it's anti-religious I will definitely watch and support the movie. Organized religion is the root of all evil.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

quoted for truth.

And I'm pretty sure that the people who wrote those snippets on snopes are exaggerating about the severity of the anti-religion aspacts of the movie.

There's no denying the authenticity of this author's hatred for faith, spirituality, morality and religion. The author WAS quoted in stating that his books are out there to kill God, this is a fact. He sees religion as the authority that's only out there to stop him from having his self-serving fun and happiness.

@ ~~

The media source is not exaggerating the issue to any length, you'll find many other sources writing the exact same thing.

@ antbing

For the life of me, I can't see how you can honestly believe both of your statements that are both in the exact same post...

"Organized religion is the root of all evil."

"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things."

First you say that organized religion is the root of all evil, then you go on to say in the immediately following sentence that there are evil people doing evil things as well as good people doing good things with or WITHOUT religion. You don't know where you even stand regarding the matter, so i doubt you should even be making remarks towards the issue. If there was no faith, then where does the concept of "good" and "evil" even come from?

There would be no "good people" if "good" wasn't even defined. Please, think before you write.

Um just because organized religion is evil doesn't mean there aren't other forms of evil. I mean religion certainly can't kill people in their beds (unless there is a group who does it) so obviously religion has to be evil for other reasons. Like turning normal people into strange subservient creatures to a cause that gives them hope of having some vague sense of accomplishment and a hereafter.

Besides if we didn't have some form of religion where would all the zealots and fanatics go?

» People tend to mix God and religion

Not to go on a rant but religion is what man thinks God's will is, Christianity is supposed to be about a relationship with God. Religion is why Jesus was killed, he wanted an end to religion and for a personal relationship with God to begin. I will be ignoring this film and game based on the writers hateful beliefs.

» Praise the Lard

I've read all three of these books and they have nothing to do with religeon, they're just good fantasy books, regardless of the authors views which I agree with.

Perhaps you've heard of the Crusades or the 911 attacks or the Spanish Inquisition or the fact that George Bush is our president they were all caused by people mixed up by religeon. Who wouldn't want to stop that?

» SERIOUSLY?

its a video game

likely most of the people commenting on this forum live in secular societies. which means if you don't support something you of course have the right to not participate in it. With one exception; jesus, seem like i can't cross the street without someone trying to sell me religion or telling me what i can't do according to their religion, they even come to my house. It is terrifying to me that a ideology which encourage people not to think has permiated so many aspect of our society. Now having been both a church goer and read the golden compass i can say: organized religion is for idiots (morality is not derived for someone claiming to speak the words of god) and the golden compass trilogy bored the crap out of me. SO don't support the upcoming movie/ game but claim it's evil.. read the books before you form an opinion not a review of them.
