Sega and Guild Wars. A Match Made in Heaven, or is it?

First off, I'm not one to play the fanboy role when it comes to choosing video game consoles. They all have their own unique features and games, some better and some worse but in the end they are all just fun to play. Video games from classic systems such as the Nintendo Entertainment System and Sega Genesis are obviously still alive and kicking.

However theres a group of people who are not so happy with a classic console producer. So unhappy in fact that they choose to ban this savior of so many boring days from their popular MMORPG, Guild Wars. The victim in this case, so to speak, is "Sega".

When gamers choose to use language that would get the typical teenagers mouth washed out with soap, the game filters out the word so other gamers aren't offended. There are, no doubt a number of hypocrisies, such as the word "damn" for example.

A check was run to see if any of the other console makers were masked in this conspiracy and "Nintendo", "Sony", and "Microsoft" came up with a clean slate and were not blocked. So sad it seems, that NCsoft would shun a company invovled in such epic titles as Sonic the Hedgehog, Guardian Heroes, Panzer Dragoon Saga and Chu Chu Rocket.

» Going on your logic...

Blizzard must hate Johnny Depp, because the word Depp is censored.

» Idiotic

So the word "Sega" is censored in Guild Wars? Wow, that's very stupid and moronic. Sega's one of my favourite games companies so I'm keeping far away from this game. What other words shall they censore next...

(BTW, what has this got to do with the PSP?)

But somehow they forgot to mention that you can turn this filter off and nothing is censored. And then again, what does sega means in every language that Guild Wars supports? Perhaps it's some curse word in one of them. Like *****ati means to whistle in croatian, but when we write it in GW it comes out as ****ati, probably same case with sega in some other language...

» Not quite..

In Japanese Sega is an inappropriate word, that could be its basis.

» LOL!

That is almost as sad as "craptacular" being censored.

Wait. Hmmmmm.

(Try it in the forums)

» The absurdity of WoW

Just a mentionable here... WoW has a language filter to keep out the bad words, but they are still against the rules. Aparently in WoW, if a player turns off their filter, and sees bad words as a result, they can report someone, and the reported individual gets in trouble.

You would think they should just be called a moron for turning their filter off, but no, that would be too simple.

» Quit

I'm quiting Guild Wars now. I will not buy Factions. I say that we all protest until Arena makes "sega" legal.

» Retarded

This is so retarded. It's because Sega is a naughty word in some languages, italian I think. Why is this in mp PSP feed? So much off-topic feed garbage these days.

» maybe...

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-13 01:48
» do your research...

Sega is an inappropriate word in Italian. Someone should have read the comments at Kotaku before re-posting somebodiy elses misinformed and sensationalist garbage.

FYI, the company Sega itself is known as "Siga" in Italy as a result.

There's zero conspiracy to see here, move along.

» meaning of sega

I'm italian and "sega" in italian means "wank". It's no big deal, except maybe some nerdish attitude to find the conspiracy even in the most stupid things.

» sigh
