There are emulators, there's the Sega Genesis Collection, and then there are emulators (again). Sigh... Don't get us wrong, we like playing retro games, and we're thankful for all the effort being made by the homebrew community to bring us hacks of titles we've always enjoyed, then there's the Virtual Console and PlayStation Store for the next-gen consoles.
Even with Sega's console development now virtually non-existent, we still see the resurfacing of their classics in the many emulations, both official and unofficial. But it still begs the question: don't you ever wish the original devs would actually make a sequel to some of our beloved titles?
The guys over at Seganerds posted this question towards Sega, and listed up what they think are worthy titles to sequel. Here's the list, and for guys who were too young to remember these game titles, the full details are in the source link. As for us, the fact these dudes mentioned Shenmue and Panzer Dragoon, we know they're not just ranting - good choices there.

Well I was with this article until I saw the list.
Shenmue, one of my friends was really into it. He is the only person I have ever known who didnt think it was awful, myself included.
Ecco, was an awful game with two awful sequals.
The panzer dragoon franchise just got a new game for the Xbox not long ago. I am sure we will see more panzer dragoon games.
Phantasy star was classic, but lets face it, SEGA has doomed this series to these crappy PSO style games. having played the PSO games I am sure we will never see a Phantasy Star 5. SEGA doesnt seem to care enough about quality to do more then PSO. I am playing PSU right now, and wow.... not worth what I paid for it.
Another streets of rage would be nice, but people just dont make brawler games anymore. That sort of game just doesnt hook players for more then a day or two. MAYBE they would throw together a crappy Streets of Rage game for the PSP, but thats about the best we can hope for.

panzer dragoon saga is the best single player game i have ever played bar none...it clearly needs a sequel, or remake, it should clearly be no1 on that list imo

a 3d version of sonic 2 would be cool like make a remix of all the old music and remake the same levels all in 3d... and don't add and stupid characters like shadow or cream

I'm still pissed SOA doesn't ever want to put Streets of Rage in any compilation. Sega Genesis Collection should have had the games in it seeing is how they were amongst the most popular.

I played Shenmue 1 on the DC, played through the xbox version, got the import version for dreamcast for Shenmue 2. The game was just simply fantastic. It was a great mix of action,RPG and storytelling. It is one of the most underappreciate d games to ever come out. It combines to unlikely genres so well. Shenmue 2 has left us hanging. They need to make or release a part 3 to close out the series. Shenmue is a true masterpiece that never got the attention it deserved.

Please make us a Shenmue 3! My girlfriend and I had such a blast playing both the other versions of the game and it just isn't right that they keep us hanging...Every year, I search the web looking for a sign that we will soon get a Shenmue 3, and nothing....how could sega actually leave us hanging in the middle of a story like that...
I know that they have made multiple Phantasy Star Online games but when in the world will the make another "TRUE" Phantasy Star game. The Phantasy Star series could have been as big as FF is but somewhere along the line Sega dropped the ball. PS2 and PS4 are two of the top 10 RPG's of all time in my opinion. Why have we never seen a true sequel?

Sega should defintly make sequels to these games since there 2 biggest series(Sonic and Phantasy Star) suck. New Sonic was terrible and was just SA2 with more flaws =/ And the new Phantasy Star was bad as well. Sega is becoming one of the worst third arty developers they need to make some good games to gain some more respect.
In fact there was a new TJ + E for the Xbox back in 2003, but it wasn't that good i heard

the remake are always great, I don't see why they don't make more of them, I mean, all the new teens who never played the old will love the new ( with super dooper graphics ) and at least half the player who loved the 1st will want to play the remake

An article about Sega and no mention of Vectorman? For shame . . . one of the best "shooters" on the Genesis.
Knights needs a new game damn it, screw all them other lame craps, only Knights. a psp version would be the bomb.
Is this the reason, why SEGA is releasing their great classics on the Wii?
I hope Saturn and DC games will come to the Wii too. (in some years)
I think a new NiGHTS game on the next gen consoles would be awesome. Also Streets of Rage is one of my all time favorite beat em ups. I think if they did make a new Streets of Rage, they need to make sure it is good and not rush it. I think they could make it adult themed with jaw dropping graphics and very serious story if they wanted to. Some of the other brawler games made on consoles in 3D were pretty cheesy and not well done. I think Sega should look at good remakes of games that other companies have done that used alot of serious well thought out ways to convey emotion and the story, such as like Ninja Gaiden and Metal Gear. I think Sega has what it takes to do it if they look long, hard and don't stray from the idea.

There was Ecco 2 and also there was Ecco Jr. which was a kids version of the game.
Yea your totally wrong about PSP buddy. They are actually still selling quite well new and used (I work at a gamestop and still sell systems and games for it quite often).

Vectorman did have a sequel on the Genesis and it was ok, but failed due to the fact they made the game extremely tough.

The 32X for the Genesis screwed up the Saturn's launch. It came out shortly before and was a half-assed 32 bit system that plugged into the Genesis's cartridge port. Plus it used different games than the Genesis and the CD add on. Then the Saturn came out a little over a year later with it's own games. The 32x ruined Sega's console business. Difficult development tools and low third party software support doomed the Saturn. It wasn't a bad system, people just quit making games for it.
32x was not actually a 32 bit system upgrade it only enhanced color for the most part along with some other minor tweaks.
And yes I agree that Sega CD and 32x were the downfall of Saturn, and the fact that each of them was pretty expensive (consumers feel screwed with each new one that came out).
I still play Knuckles Chaotic on my 32x though (amazing co-op game)
I would disagree with many of your statements. Ecco the Dolphin was one of the hardest, simplest to understand, and most fun games I have ever played, and Shenmue was a work of art.
Now, with you statement about the brawlers, I'm sad to say I agree.
your all right sega rocks and those games are great... but WTF you have completely forgotten the best game EVER made throughout all of history. Gunstar Heroes for the sega genesis. I STRONGLY reccomend you all get a friend with a psp to play with and both download a genesis emulator, boot up the rom, and get back in touch with your roots with some 16-bit multiplayer mayhem.
