ItÂ’s nothing new for movie studios to spend money on videogames. Warner Brothers, Disney and Universal Studios have all done it. Hence, the dozens of really terrible movie-to-game adaptations floating around. This is the first time, however, that a major Hollywood studio will be buying a game developer wholesale.

ThereÂ’s no official word on this yet. Neither Epic Games nor Legendary Pictures could give a definitive answer when asked on the subject but several sources close to the companies involved did confirm that talks between the two giants are well under way.

Legendary PicturesÂ’ chairman, Thomas Tull, is known for his previous association with the Hollywood license-focused videogame publisher, Brash Entertainment. It seems apparent that TullÂ’s interest in videogames has not waned despite leaving the struggling company and Epic seems to have nothing but the highest regard for Tull.

A quote from Epic mentioned that they wouldnÂ’t be adverse to the notion of being bought out if Legendary and Tull were the ones to do it.

The relationship between the two companies started earlier this year when Legendary Pictures announced that they will be partnering with Epic Games on the Gears of War movie project.
