Circuit City - Image 1I'm sure most here don't much enjoy profiting at another's expense but these are rather lean times and we do need our video game fixes.

That said, there's a credible rumor floating around that closing Circuit City stores are going to be selling their games at discounted rates. Makes sense since they'll have to liquidate their assets before the axe falls.

You may recall an article from just a few days ago that Circuit City, the second largest consumer electronics chain in the US, will be closing 155 of its stores and laying off thousands of employees in the process. Terrible news especially with the holidays just around the corner.

In the wake of this depressing news, a Circuit City employee sent an email to Kotaku with the discounted rates she'd been slapping onto the merchandise. From the video game department the breakdown is as follows:
  • Five percent off on all consoles (360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP) and their respective games.
  • 10 percent off  on all game accessories.
  • 10 percent off on all social games (ie Guitar Hero, RockBand, etc).
  • 10 percent off on all PC games.
  • 20 percent off on all strategy guides.
The rates are likely to drop further in the near future, though with the Christmas rush incoming (already here for some) you might want to check what stock's available before you're left with old copies of Daikatana.

If you're curious if there are any Circuit City stores closing near you, Kotaku has a full list complete with addresses. It's in the source link below.

» This is no rumor

This is no rumor. I work at CCity and yeah, the games will be dicounted 10% of the regular price. As well as all the other electronics in the store (some are discounted more than others).

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

That's it? When CompUSA closed most of their stores we saw bigger sales then that!

Bummer....

The reason they're closing is because CC sucks. No reason for them to stop now. The only reason to ever go there is to pricematch someone else.

The pricecs will drop lower over time.

And yeah, The old CCity did suck, but the new one they came up with is even better than Best Buy, but there aren't that many of em yet.

» Not to be negative but.....

I totally agree. CC was not able to compete price wise with most places and their service wasn't really that great, nor was their selection. I had a really bad experience there a few times and will never go back. Plus 10% off isn't enough to justify driving 30 miles to the closest one. I think I'll save gas and pay the 4 extra dollars to buy from Target....
