Kotaku reader Jaime didn't get the chance to attend E3, but he was lucky enough to make it to the Nintendo World Store E3 VIP party. He expected a gift of a DS title or a similar token, but he ended up with a rare Nintendo World Store etched DS. No, the store didn't give away brand new DS units, but they etched the E3 and store logo on units brought by owners in the party. The first 12 people who dropped their DS off the store desk were able to get their newly-etched units on that same night. The rest of the 55 people who lined up had to pick their units up after the etchers have finished.

Jamie's DS may not be in pristine shape, but with only 55 Nintendo World Store-etched units in the planet, it will surely command a high price on eBay. If he ever does sell it, that is.

» Oh hoo-freaking-ray

Hey guess what? I can go out behind my back yard and etch my name onto the top of my DS with a knife.

And that will even be even MORE rare becuase it'll be the only DS in the WORLD with MY name etched on it with a rusty knife. YAY!!

Jesus christ. Who cares? Anyone can scratch something onto the top of their DS. The only difference was that his DS was "professionally" defaced by Nintedo at E3.

Well, please allow me to take this moment to die of total jealousy. Pfft. A free DS title would have been loads better. I'm guessing that those that weren't so lucky were still waiting in line to have Shigeru personally hock a loogie on their DS, just so they won't feel left out in the "specialness"

As for me, file this down in the "who rightfully gives a flying crap" catagory.

» no title

While it's nice to have a rare etching on the lid, look at the condition of the rest of the DS. Half of the silver on the lid has been rubbed off! I doubt this would break $150 on Ebay in that condition. He should have looked after it better. Plus the etching looks a little to far to the right...

» 55 now

But really how hard would it be to get an engraver to copy that exact. There are going to be plaenty more than 55 in a while.

» wont get any $$$

a guy on gamefaqs has one of those and was trying to sell it on ebay and like 3 people bid on it and i don't think it even went over $100, probably less, probably didn't even sell it. i guess no one wants one or realises what it is.
