QuickJump QuickPeek 60: Of god-awful trailers, mainstreaming homebrews, console color makeovers, acronyms and more |
Ó
But life is busy and so most of us need a lot of catching up to do. So to make things more convenient to all you "GIs" out there (General Informationists), QuickPeek is your cup'o tea.
We saw this week the second installments of our QJ QuickGuide and How-To Series, the continuing impact of the recession on the industry, awards and recognitions to deserving names in the industry, console make-overs, and of course, the run-up week to the biggest title to hit the PS3 as of yet. Let's get this quick rundown of the past week in QJ, via our brave Weekend Warriors, shall we?
A rumored Idolmaster SP leak, trading figures for Dissidia, new videos for Resistance: Retribution Infected Mode and Persona. That's what we saw the past week on the gaming front of the PSP. But of all the trailers that we've seen thus far, the jumpiest of them all would be the trailer for Dragonball: Evolution. Inasmuch as we keep cringing at the mere mention of both the game and the movie, we still end up clicking on that Play button, anyway. Oh, but don't we just love self-inflicted injury? On the homebrew front, there's a whole slew of news development, spearheaded by the noisemaker No Gravity, the first among the original homebrew games that have successfully breached the rigid line to Sony's mainstream PSN. It's an encouraging sight of things that could possibly come, especially to homebrewers. Maybe someday we'll all make peace? Maybe.
And then we've got the second installments for both our new series, QuickGuide #2: PSP Firmware Database (Part 1) and How-To #2: What you need to get Homebrew running on your PSP. It's certainly a very helpful guide, particularly to those who just got aboard the PSP wagon. And it's also a good trip back to memory lane for those who have been here with us from the start. Good times, indeed. Good times.

Kojima gets his second Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the gaming industry with his Metal Gear Solid franchise. Meanwhile, after a long-overdue release, Europe finally sees Street Fighter II Turbo HD on their PSN, while Capcom is waiting it out before deciding whether or not to add Dee Jay and T. Hawk to Street Fighter IV. The new members of Team Nora from FFXIII were finally introduced, and Brett Ratner leaves the God of War movie for... something else.Link: The PS3 Weekend Warrior: Of closing store, updating Stores, Lifetime Awards, and the run-up week to Killzone 2
And you shall no longer fear the red on your Xbox 360 as Microsoft embraces the color as its new choice for the Red Xbox 360. The past week saw this bit of news progress from being just a rumor to a full-blown confirmed piece, complete with acknowledgment of a New Zealand shipping. Lucky hobbitses, but what about us?On the gaming side of things, fans were startled to find out that their dearly beloved blood and violence were "censored" in GTA IV upon a dispatch of a patch. Rockstar responded quick to appease said fans and promised to fix it up right away. Coincidentally, the "error" came out just as The Lost and Damned DLC made its way online, but Rockstar says the two weren't related.

Probably the only thing different in the Weekend Warriors, the Nintendo blogs have joined forces to bring you the WiiDS Weekend Warrior. Experts are back giving their now-more-than-two-cents' take on gaming, and found that the Wii has the youngest gamer demographic. The DSi pre-order has begun at GameStop, and finally gets a North American release date to boot. Speaking of pre-orders, GTA Chinatown Wars is also on the list now for pre-orders at GameStop. And then, rumors are there too for Brutal Legend on Wii, but a confirmation is at hand for a Wii-exclusive Dead Space.

Now, now. That was quite a week, was it not? But what would a QuickPeek be without a CoW? Remember? Comment of the Week? I thought you'd want to get it back. Since Isaac C. missed out on it last week, why don't we jumpstart it once more with something fun and light.
This one had me ROFL'ing on our office floor at hello. Boys and girls, know your acronyms. (This is all just in the spirit of fun, ayt?). At least phiyuku had the sense to ask. ^_^
And that's all we have for you for this week's QuickPeek issue. Be sure to come back next week, cos we're sure it's gonna be even bigger, what with the release of Killzone 2 and all. Get ready to ruuuuuuuuuumble!!!!
