Prince of Persia: SoT lead role to be played by Jake Gyllenhaal |
Ó
Remember Jerry Bruckheimer and Mike Newell's Prince of Persia: Sands of Time flick? It's currently a-rolling, and they've already found the actors who will play the roles of the Prince and his female lead. Jake Gyllenhaal of Brokeback Mountain fame is given the lead role, while actress Gemma Arterton is cast as "a feisty and exotic princess" who will aid the protagonist in his adventures. The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time movie will chronicle the exploits of Dastan, a Persian Prince who, along with Arterton's princess named Tamina, tries to protect the Sands of Time from an evil nobleman. The script is written by Doug Miro, Carlo Bernard, and Boaz Yakin, alongside Jordan Mechner, creator of Prince of Persia.
It's going to be a long wait before the movie hits the screens, however, with production starting next July.

when will hollywood stop casting the white guy to the lead role? sure, there are a lot of exceptions, but they only happen when it is absolutely necessary to the story (denzel to american gangster, etc). jake gyllenhaal isn't a bad actor, but the point is that he's not persian, and the game/movie is called PRINCE OF PERSIA. they should have found an unknown persian guy with mad freerunning skills and given him the part. he doesn't even have to talk much. the prince never did much talking.
because the actor's skin color and stunts are more important than the acting ability.
is it that hard to find a person who fits the part physically and talent-wise? jg honestly doesnt fit the story at all. he's a pipsqueak, not a badass.
this guy is PERFECT for prince of persia, and he is also persian!

he's also persian!
he think about jake is that he is NOT the badass type, he is more of a romantic type(brokeback mountian)
I do agree that Oded Fehr would be a better choice for playing the Prince than Jake Gyllenhaal (he's also a good actor) but he is not Persian, he was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. The Persian Empire is the Iran of today. So, that would be a no, no for Bruckheimer I guess. Well, let's hope it'll be a good movie though.
Seeing as how it's a MOVIE and they probably didn't just through Jake Gyllenhaal the role without seeing some reason to assign it to him, I'm not too worried. He's been in action movies (Jarhead, anyone?) and the fact that it wasn't that great wasn't even his fault, just saying.
I'm pretty sure that fixating on how he isn't Persian won't make a difference when the movie comes out, as it's about the story, not about how the people telling it aren't really THOSE people, if you get what I mean.
That would have been my 2nd choice. Anyone that saw 300 knows who i'm talking about. The Soldier that spoke to the persian General about half way though the movie was a Carbon Copy of the prince from the games. I thought they would go with him since he was almost a mirror image of the character. BUT now.. they jumped on the bandwagon of Hollywood names and the movie MIGHT SUCK.
Actually, during an interview, he said that he was Persian by heritage, so he does have a little Persian in him. LOL (that didn't sound right)
They are already warping the names of the characters of SoT? That leads me to predict that this movie will just be for the bucks, and not to focus on the actual storyline :(
I haven't played any Prince of Persia game in so long, but I remember that the Prince's name that he revealed at the end of SoT wasn't Dastan, and the princess of course wasn't Tamina. I think it was Sarah, or something along that.
Anyways, I've kinda lost my fire for the movie until I see a trailer, I just hate it when movie makers make something out of a book/game series, and twist events around so damn much.
Her name was Farah
yeah! he's the tattooed guy in The Mummy! aaaand! did another video game movie before... Resident Evil as Carlos Oliviera! Cool!
