Pokemon co-creator Tsunekazu Ishihara with Pokemon Pearl and DiamondTo Pokemon lovers everywhere, Tsunekazu Ishihara is one of their heroes. He, along with Satoshi Tajiri, helped create what is now the second-biggest game franchise ever. In this interview with Famitsu, he hints at the upcoming DS titles Pearl and Diamond being being the "ultimate" Pokemons in the handheld series, and brings up a teaser that may ultimately have to do with the Wii's Battle Revolution.

Part of the reason why Pearl/Diamond will be the "ultimate" Pokemon, Ishihara explains, is that they will link to all their predecessors in the series, and serve as a Pokemon "compilation" of sorts. Every new release of Pokemon always had new Pokemon to collect - "Red and Green had 151 Pokemon while in Gold and Silver 100 more were added and following that, Ruby and Sapphire ended up with more than 380 different Pokemon." The DS titles will add "even more" species to the list, and will be able to evolve the old Pokemon into something new via the wireless link-up feature.

With the DS reaching out to a wider audience of gamers beyond the hard-core niche, Ishihara foresees that Pokemon Pearl and Diamond will serve as a "gateway RPG" (he says it as "a player's first RPG") for first-time handheld gamers everywhere. He says that Brain Age helped break the DS out to that wider market, introducing a new audience to casual gaming, and these new Pokemon games will help break this new audience into RPG gaming.

Finally, he reveals plans to link up the DS and Wii with Pokemon. That's all he reveals in the interview, but a few days later Nintendo of Japan would demo a DS-Wii linkup in Battle Revolution. Perhaps this is what he was hinting at?

# I'd like to know howFlare576 2006-09-16 15:52
How exactly are we to get our old Pokemon onto this new game? The NDS can't interface with any of the older Gameboy models (GB/C used a cord, GBA/SP used infrared).

**After investigation**

Still posting this in case someone has the same question: Looks like Red/Blue (and anything else on the original GB/C) are out of luck, but the ones for the GBA will probably just need the cart inserted while playing the DS ones; it'll read the cart and pick up your critters. That's what I've gathered, anyway...

# the real question is..Guest 2006-09-16 16:30
will we be able to have more than one save file this time? if it's supposed to reach out to a wider audience and be a player's first rpg, then these virgins should be able to piggyback off their nerdy brothers/sons/grandsons.

# GB/GBC -> GBA -> DSGuest 2006-09-16 17:30
To get Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/Crystal onto Diamond/Pearl you'll need to first transfer over all of the pokemon you want from Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/Crystal to Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen and then from Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen you simply insert the GBA game into the GBA slot and transfer (read: transfer not trade) the pokemon from Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen to Diamond/Pearl. A ***** of a process but it'll get it done.

Yeah, you can't. That is, you can't get any Pokémon from Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/Crystal to Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen. So, sadly, your idea is out of luck.

# Regarding getting pokemon from R/B/Y/G/S to Diamond and PearlGuest 2006-10-02 02:32
When I first read your post, melloncollie, I was over the moon. But, upon doing some research, everywhere i looked said that you cannot trade pokemon from r/b/y/g/s/c with any other pokemon game..........

If you know how this is done, please let us know! lol.

I REALLY want to keep the pokemon I have raised and used all of these years :D

# Catchable?Guest 2006-10-02 03:05
If the new versions are not compatible with the originals.... are pokemon such as mew, celebi etc going to be catchable?

Even if they are insanely difficult to obtain, I would still prefer this to them only being obtainable at nintendo events.

If I am buying a game, I want access to all of the pokemon on it.

Besides, I went to a nintendo event with a friend to get celebi. It was bad enough then being 16 in line with a bunch of 8 year olds at a mall. Imagine now being 21! lol! [I still would though...... =p]
