Passcard 3 Review By DeVS

Passcard 3 is a nifty third-generation hardware device for the Nintendo DS, which bypasses the security check from the DS game cartridge slot. This allows you to run DS homebrew games, applications and backed up roms from a GBA flashcard device without the pains of programming. DeVS was able to snag one and and sent in a review to boot.

The device is safely tucked in a plastic protective case and comes in a little box with professional-looking box art. You might find yourself looking for a software disk, but there's none as there's really no need for one. The Passcard 3 has the same exact size of a DS game cartridge, as you see on the pic. Unlike the previous Passkey2 and Passcard 2 devices, the Passcard 3 is a plug and play device that you simply take out of the box and insert in your DS. It starts running without the need for programming and the annoying "power-on-then-off-then-on-again" drill.

After you plug in the device, turn on the DS and you'll be greeted by the usual Nintendo health warning and then the Passcard 3 splash screen. You'll then automatically be taken into the flash cards menu. The Passcard 3 works with all the major flash carts (Supercard, G6, and Neo), but DeVS was able to "break-in" the device with his M3 MiniSD. You'd also be interested to know that Passcard 3 works perfectly with the sleep mode function of the DS.

DeVS has nothing but praises for the device:

One word, WOW! The Passcard 3 is the ultimate passme solution for the Nintendo DS. The Passcard 3 is the smallest and easiest passme device on the market today. Not only is it the best looking flashme device, but it is the safest! By using the Passcard 3 you won’t risk “bricking” your DS by flashing it (which seems to happen to 1 out of every 3 DS Lites that people have tried to flash). Style, ease of use, no risk passme, and price, makes the Passcard 3 the hands down top dog for passme technology on the DS.

Sleep mode does indeed work if you have an original DS cart in the slot

Right which defeats the purpose of risking the bricking of your DS to flash it,lol. If you must put a DS cart in the DS slot anyways, why no use the Passcard 3 to begin with and not risk bricking your Lite which MANY people have done recently. The passcard 3 and the Superkey also do not constantly consume power unlike the previous Superpass 2/ Passkey 2 products.

# When can I buy? Where?MSUnman 2006-06-15 01:26
Are these available to buy yet? and where do you go to order it? I want this or the supercard one that is supposed to come out soon. I hate the passkey 2 special edition, where it sticks out and sucks a lot of your power. This seems perfect to me as long as it works with supercard like the review said.

If you "brick" your DS and don't know how to use recovery code, you really shouldn't be messing with DS homebrew/piracy.

30 Uk pounds = roughly $55 US dollars. The Passcard 3 runs about $18 US dollars brand new. Buy it here: http://www.winsunx.com/list.php?mod=670

FlashMe also gets rid of the annoying "Health Warning" screen that appears every time you turn your DS on.

Bricking your DS/Lite is 100% a user issue.

It happens when while you are trying to jump the SL1 connection, you somehow find the need to jam the tool in crooked and somehow touch another piece of metal near the SL1 pads, thus shorting the unit before the firmware is flashed.

If you do not know what you are doing, don't flash your ds/lite, just common sense. People that brick their lites are generally idiots who didn't research enough to even be thinking about doing it in the first place. It is somewhat darwinistic, but instead of survival, it is punishment for overstepping your abilities.
