Pachter: Take-Two is not earning enough money |
Ó
Even with landmark titles under its belt, Grand Theft Auto, Manhunt, and BioShock aren't enough to cash in much dough for Take-Two Interactive. "The company doesn't appear to be able to make much money from its everyday business," said Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter.Pachter pointed at other franchises, particularly "money-losing sports games," as reasons why he believes Take-Two is not a great investment right now. "Until we see evidence of better controls over work in process and greater diligence in project selection, we are not confident that the company will gain market share in future years," he said.
Among Pachter's prophecies were numbers for BioShock's sales, which he recently raised to two million from 1.3 million. Manhunt 2, after much delay and controversy, is about to hit the shelves and Pachter expects 500,000 copies sold the day it ships. The analyst also stepped his Take-Two revenue estimate for the fourth fiscal quarter up a bit, from US$ 292 million to US$ 300 million.
That said, Pachter doesn't think Electronic Arts will be interested in acquiring Take-Two. "EAÂ’s culture is not conducive to open-ended delivery dates, artistic freedom, and incredibly violent games," he explained. He also claimed that sexual content in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and violence Manhunt 2 will not be tolerated by EA.
According to Pachter, Take-Two's franchises will also be replicas of EA's games, shooting down the idea of acquisition. Midnight Club is to Need for Speed, while both companies have their own share of sports games. Furthermore, he added, "Take-Two has a very low cash position."

When did video game companies become such pussies about everything.
f--k that ROCKSTAR FOREVER.LONG LIVE ROCKSTAR ,THE FORFRONT INIVATERS OF KICK A$$$$$$ ADULT GAMES.
With all the lawsuits served daily to Take-Two by disgruntled parents, it makes you wonder how much they've had to dish out.. No wonder they don't have much money hahaha.

Bioshock isn't a Take 2 title, its a 2K games title.
are EA really in a posistion to say this? their games have been going downhill since bf1942.... rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat...
Guess who owns 2K Games, thats right Take2. Im sure things will get moving again once GTA IV, Midnight Club LA, LA Noire, etc come out.
EA appeals to the general crowd, that's why their games good at best. They put too many restrictions, buy out too many competing companies, and watch out for their own asses too much to care for where the industry is going. Yes, they're in for the money only...Madden, Live, Need for Speed, Medal of Honor, Sims 2 expansions. These are EA cash cows, and they sell like crazy despite having any improvements over the past year's offering.
With that being said, why would they want to invest in a company who invests their time in pushing quality alternatives that are more inspirational, controversial, and ground-breaking? Yes, T2 doesn't roll by EA's guidelines, so I don't see it happening any time soon.
ash i agree with you 100% gta4 will make them billions! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHA oh sorry about that.
Midnight club dub edition and Remix..are in my PS3 right now..i love those games way more than the plain linear need for speed series that comes out with a new side thing every year... and expect people to buy it............midnight club has the speed of burnout and the cars look like my sweetest dreams,.ive made any car i could think of'. and i like starting car shows online to show off my creations.......and getting peoples real respect....and just having an 8 people drag race....to see whos quick with theire fingers
i would love it if i could take high res pics of my custom made cars in midnight club: los angeles to use as a ps3 backround
the only things on my list are Mercenaires, gta 4, midnight club los angeles, bioshock{PS3}....and im not really excited about MGS4 cause i got really stuck in an early level on portable ops........i got real pissed........i passed all of MGS1 on the game cube, MGS 2 on my ps2{a few times}, and MGS3 (a couple of times trying to get all of those stupid frogs} and i was excited bout 4 but it looks REALLY HARD, you seen those beast, and ill get my @$$ handed to me in unreal.......ill buy it if i can play it offline with my real FRIENDS, i kinda wanted heavenly sword and warhawk, if they make another twisted metal IM SOLD, i love those games that made me buy the ps2 back then and the ps1
