Pachter: Nintendo to launch DS successor as early as end of this year

Nintendo DS Lite green - Image 1Nintendo of America may have expressed its apparent intent (or lack thereof) on releasing new redesigns for their DS handheld. However Wedbush Morgan's oracle Michael Pachter has another thing in mind: that Nintendo may launch the successor to the DS as early as the end of year.

Seeing that the DS still prints money, and that the handheld's current profitability is the reason why Nintendo is reluctant to see a redesign on the Nintendo DS, why launch the successor so soon?

The reasons posed by Pachter were the following: DS sales are currently weak in Japan, and "that lower than expected DS hardware sales could trigger an earlier launch for the new device," according to the analyst.

While the decline isn't so apparent in the US and Europe territories where DS sales numbers are still soaring high, Pachter believes that the number of Japanese consumers who would snap up the handheld will significantly lessen, and may very well prompt Nintendo to launch a new handheld console before the year ends.

Can't you guys read?

They're talking about HARDWARE SALES - can you pirate those too?
by chessboxer - 2008-07-31 02:26:14
yes

You can pirate the hardware. There are copies/look-a-likes of PSP's and DS's on sale in China. They only play 1 or 2 games and they're extremely bad and unfortunately, people who don't know better will get caught out, especially due to the packaging they are sold in. Do a search on YouTube for visual evidence of how rubbish they are.

OK

Got me there, but this doesn't make that much an impact...

Really?

Nah doubt it, im betting loads of people are buying DSs and PSPs just because they can play games illegally and for free

all about price

everyone that wants a ds probably already has one and now whoever wants a gaming system probably gets the psp seeing that its $50 more with 10x the features. maybe the new ds will include music/movie playback? DS2. Wasn't the GBA to GBA-SP called a successor even though it still played the same games?
