Original DS No Longer in Production?

NDSRetailers in Japan are reporting that they haven't received a new shipment of the original Nintendo DS in a month now. That would tally up with sales numbers which have had the Nintendo DS on a roller coaster of a ride. Some weeks its been as low as 8,000 units sold!

This hasn't been announced officially by Nintendo, but it seems obvious that they're phasing out the old DS in favour of the new DS Lite, just like they did with the GBA and GBA SP. It's only a matter of time before they do the same in North America, Europe, and Australia. After all, I'm fairly sure that the DS Lite is in much higher demand than the DS. It's also probably cheaper to manufacture!

why would you buy the regular DS when you can get the Lite? doesn't make ANY sense.

I know that the DS Lite has many nice new features and is less bulky than the regular DS, but I'll stay with my original DS. I got my original DS in December of 2004, when there was a mad rush to find one for the holiday season. It's the original silver DS (back when the only color was silver) and it is near mint condition. I wouldn't trade it in for anything. It's the original DS type and color! In a few years when the DS is "retro", it's going to be like the original gameboy to the gameboy pocket. Original gameboys go for more than Gameboy Pockets. Every retro console collector will want an original DS. Anyway, what's the difference between the DS and DS Lite? Brighter screen, different location of microphone? Why would I want to trade my original DS in for that? Game stores rip you off on trade-ins anyways, so you end up losing money if you trade your old DS in. I'm perfectly content with my original DS and will be keeping it forever.

I can see what your saying #2 but the DSlite is just better in everyway.

Brighter screen(pretty much makes other screens look like crap and very very bright),

Lighter, Better stylus placement, Better stylus,

Longer Battery(on lowest you will think it has a solar panel built in)

Keep your DSphat because it will be retro and its has the great features what makes Nintendo DS work just play one for a few days then try go back.

White is a very nice colour by the way. ;)
