On Shelves This Week March 1 to 7 - Image 1

Gotta be in-the-know about the latest game releases right? For that, we've got another edition of On Shelves for this week. We've got a pretty solid batch coming up, starting with the release of Halo Wars and Phantasy Star Portable. Baseball's gonna be big this week as well, with the release of Major League Baseball 2K9 and MLB 09: The Show. More info coming right up!

Littlest Pet Shop: Spring - Feel like raising your own little big-eyed pets? The franchise continues to grow as the Spring version gets released, bringing more cute and cuddly critters into your handheld.
Halo Wars - The wait is almost over, the RTS title in the Halo franchise is making its way to stores this week. Fans of the franchise will definitely get a good kick out of this one. But with its short campaign and lackluster multiplayer gameplay really doesn't bring this game up to par with titles in the same genre.
  • Xbox 360 - March 3, 2009
  • ESRB Teen
  • US$ 59.99
  • Microsoft
Major League Baseball 2K9 - The 2009 baseball title of the fast-growing sports franchise is coming out. Keeping true to the publisher's rep, MLB 2K9 features excellent game physics, and you won't have to worry about predictable sweet spots and flyouts that you know where to catch as soon as the bat hits the ball.
  • PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PC - March 3, 2009
  • ESRB Everyone
  • US$ 53.99 (PS3, Xbox 360), US$ 49.99 (Wii), US$ 19.99 (PS2, PC)
  • 2K Sports
MLB 2K9 Fantasy All-Stars - The DS spin-off of MLB 2K9 provides a light and easy feel for the not-so-serious baseball fans. Instead of the new Yankee Stadium, gamers get to play it out in ghost towns, Aztec ruins, and even inside someone's gut, where you can sometimes hear burping sounds.
  • Nintendo DS - March 3, 2009
  • ESRB Everyone
  • US$ 19.99
  • 2K Sports
MLB 09: The Show- With smooth graphics, smart AI, and cool features that you won't find anywhere else, this title gives all other MLB titles a run for their money. MLB 09: The Show also features a detailed manager mode, where you can play the boss and build (or sabotage) your own franchise.
  • PS3, PS2, PSP - March 3, 2009
  • ESRB Everyone
  • US$ 39.99 (PS3), US$ 19.99 (PS2), US$ 29.99 (PSP)

Phantasy Star Portable - The latest in the Phantasy Star franchise will have an all-new story mode, in addition to new missions and a multiplayer mode that supports co-op gameplay for up to four players. You can even create your own character where players can choose details from clothes, face, voice, and even face details such as eyelashes and eyebrows.
Six Flags Fun Park - When the recession and a bunch of lawsuits got the better out of Brash Entertainment, publishing the game went to Ubisoft, who rose to the occasion by putting the fun into the Fun Park. Choose from 40 mini-games including Skee-Ball, Go Fish, and Strongman to give yourself a light game experience that you and kids can enjoy together.
  • Wii - March 3, 2009
  • ESRB Everyone 10+
  • US$ 29.79
  • Ubisoft
Sonic and the Black Knight - This is gonna be a bit different from the Sonic that you're used to seeing. While running at his usual break-neck speed, Sonic can now use a sword that you'll be swinging along with the Wiimote, and you can slice foes as you run past them. There will also be civilians in the game, and you will have the option to either help them, to put them out of their misery.
  • Wii - March 3, 2009
  • ESRB Eveyone 10+
  • US$ 46.99
  • Sega
SpongeBob vs. The Big One: Beach Party Cook-Off - Now's your chance to see if you can cook as well as the best fry cook in Bikini Bottom. Kids who love the jolly yellow sponge and his insane pals might enjoy taking a dive to the pineapple under the sea for this one.
  • Nintendo DS - March 3, 2009
  • ESRB Everyone
  • US$ 29.99
  • THQ
The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match - Terry Bogard and his band of unrelenting fighters are soon to be available on Xbox Live. It's been a while since we've had a retro fighter, and The King of Fighters makes a very welcome addition.

  • ESRB Teen
  • No pricing details
  • SNK Playmore
Tom Clancy's HAWX - The latest Tom Clancy title features an Enhanced Reality System (ERS) which may include radars, missile detection, anti-crash and damage control systems, and even weapons trajectory control. The ERS would be the focal point of this title's gameplay, so you better be sure to get used to the system.

  • ESRB Teen
  • US$ 59.99 (PS3, Xbox 360), US$ 46.99 (PC)

» I did not like HAWX

mainly because of the camera when you trigger off the whatever its called(LT and RT or R2 and L2) It pulls out and you can see the whole battle. I know this makes it look epic and all but after playing Ace Combat I just can't pilot it like that.

» Empire Total War

It suppose to be out on March 3. Or are PC games are not included in this list ?

It takes some getting used to and there is always the other view options. After playing the demo I was pretty impressed by it. I may pick it up.

» um...

isn't comparing halo wars to any other RTS kind of like comparing mario kart to any other racing game?

by rollypoly - 2009-03-02 09:43
» really?

taking your lead franchise and slapping it onto a watered down version of a game from another genre isn't anything like what nintendo did with mario kart?

by phiyuku - 2009-03-02 14:40
» Um the other view options

are only used when you have assistance triggered on so you can't stall / drift turn. When you turn assistance off with the lt and rt it goes into that zoomed out mode that doesn't change your camera and only locks onto enemy so I can't tell what way I'm facing or turning because my plane is soooo tiny.

» Re: rollypoly

yea thats true but nintendo always does that with everything. Nintendo is very different i gave up on it although i do love Zelda and super smash and mario my child hood friend but im fed up already with no HD graphics the wii is the gamecube gutted out and just added the sensor to it. But right now its Sony and MS. Man i hope somebody brings megaman back.

Yeah I can see how that would be a pain playing on a small screen tv. I still think it looks like a pretty solid game though. I like the ERS system too. It helps you to position the plane in a good combat position against the enemy. But I don't think you can use the ERS in the assistance mode though. :(
