On NDS, PSP, and Kids

NDSThere are people who like the Nintendo DS, while there are those who like the PSP. Now, we've got no problem with that, it's all cool.

However, there are those who think one handheld is better than the other yadayada... No problem with that, as long as you don't go and bash someone else's head just because he or she doesn't share the same opinion as yours.

Then of course there are people telling us to grow up, because video games will always be for kids, blahblah... Well, let's just not delve on this particular topic further, okay?

But mash 'em all together in one big Katamari ball and what've you got? Errr... a story. Vinnk is a junior high teacher who regularly brings a DS Lite to class. One day, he decides to put a PSP in a DS case and brought it with him instead. So now we have this scenario: the class is over, the children were good, and they all want to get their hands on the much-awaited handheld. So they go over the DS case only to find out a PSP instead. What happened? An 11 year-old boy cried, and all the kids in class went home downtrodden and plain disappointed.

Yeah, it's a heart-warming (if not, funny) story and all, but you're probably wondering, "Does this make the NDS more superior than the PSP?" Does this make all NDS users "kids" because 11-year olds cry due to the NDS' absence? Not really.

But with all the flashy ads and consumerism, with all the high-end specs and applications, with all the hullabaloo in which brand is the best, we sometimes forget that although games are made for recreational purposes for all ages, and kids seem to be the ones who inspired their creation in the first place.

Of course, gaming has completely evolved, with handhelds offering snazzy features tailored to suit the "more sophisticated" gamers' needs. However, it would also be nice to note kids' opinions if we're talking about playing; after all, it's one thing they're really good at.

(Credits go to Nintendo for the picture.)

This is what I call a story. Although it does put down the PSP, which I respect (although I'm fairly dissapointed in it as well). I feel that nintendo has a way of touching the hearts of players of all generations. You may figure that it is just for kids, but the man was the one who owned the DS.

An 11 year-old kid cried at the site of a PSP?

Testing this in a class full of retarte.. i mean "special" children isnt very smart. The PSP is by far the best, in every term. But kids dont really care abt graphics, music, videos and web browsing.. the PSP is more for adults who use it to play games and also as a kind of PDA. All kids want is to have fun, they can barely distinguish the graphics.

i give it that hardware wise the psp is superior to the ds, yet saying that it is superior in every term is just plain wrong.

And the ds is just for kids ? I'm 27 and married and have a ds. Even my wife of same age has a ds. If you like ports of your favourite big console games, surely the psp is your choice. now if your looking for a quick fun filled gaming experience or even an adult game ? I still would say the ds is your choice.

What's so adult/mature about FPS Ports running on the PSP ? Adult games? What about The Settlers comming to the ds? What about Brain Age ?

Oh wait, maybe i misunderstood you. You probably meant the PSP to be more for Adults cause it's gaming library is filled with blood spilling games?

Well, i for one am tired of fps games, same ***** all the time. so the ds was/is a great change from the gaming industry trying to sell us the same crap over and over...

^ What he said.

The Nintendo DS has a better fun/gameplay factor over the PSP. The features on the PSP are cool, but not all people who are gamers want that.

I have both a PSP and a NDSLite, and for fun I would say NDS Lite (games). For features, PSP.

Never in my life have I ever heard anything so ignorant, so dumb, and so immoral. You should have your face shoved up your ass.

well first of all i have a 10 year old neice and nephew and both of them have DSs. as soon as i busted out with the PSP with much better graphics and much better gameplay they were wondering why the hell they opted for the DSlite in the first place and started askin if they could play. i finally did let em play and guess who was stuck playing their crappy DSlites for 10 hr drive to louisiana ARRGHH!! so just cuz in one classroom in...well lets just go with chris and say retardville some kids cry for it IS NOT putting the PSP down.

Yes the PSP is superior in every term. The DS MIGHT have a game every once in a while thats pretty cool but thats it and for people trying to deny it its all about ports the problem with handhelds is that most of the games that were made for them were mostly watered down crackhead versions of their console versions and the PSP is just one step closer to perfect console cross-over. And mister 27 having a DS up there yes the DS is for kids and your a "special" kid for having one. and you mention FPS ports for PSP likes its crawling with them when it only has like three.

and OMFG you mentioned Brain Age like its SO HARD to make a puzzle game for the PSP and the settlers yes its an RTS and yes it is "adult" i guess you could say but cmon just look at the facts. That some of best games of all time have had blood in them lets make a list HMMMM SHALL WE?????

half life 1 and 2, Doom (1 and 3), Socom (1,2,3), Grand Theft Auto (alluvem), Man Hunt, Halo (1and2), Resident Evil 4, House of the Dead, True Crimes, Area 51, Call of Duty (1and2), Medal of Honor(except for the 2nd one) ......you know the list goes on and on on how violence most of the time makes for a better game but i bet you anything i can name more highly acclaimed violent games then you can non-violent ones. And im not saying all great games have violence but most do to some extend (hey even in Zelda you cuttin stuff up with a sword)

And finally YOUR FRIGGIN 27 and you're BARELY getting tired of the industry selling us the "same crap over and over"? let me tell ya buddy for being a nintendo fan your way off here. How many Marios must be created for you to realize they've been selling us the same crap as soon as videogamin went 3D. Your still gonna be shootin crap it just depends how u do it and your still gonna be buildin crap it just matters how u do it Nintendo just decided to (OMFG) add another screen and mostly to some games that don't even need it. you don't think Nintendogs (god i hate that game) would've been just as great with on screen? to be innovative for the sake innovation is retarded and youd think being 27 would up the common sense lvl in some folk but meh....

I'm a huge fan at the capabilities my PSP can perform, but after reading Crazy Kenny's first two paragraphs, I have been inspired to buy a DSLite. Thanks buddy.

FPS games do get boring to a lot of people. I'd like to point out that almost every game you listed was an FPS game. I get an FPS game every once in a while if it provides something new.

You also can't bash someone because they like to have fun. I'm sure that you like to have fun, too, and still will when you're 27.

I'd also like to say that every Mario game is different. If you're saying that Nintendo lacks innovation, you must have your head pretty god damn far up your ass. For you to say that every Mario game is the same just means that you've never played Mario.

Some people want an original, fun experience. Some PSP games provide that. I have both a PSP and a DS. I like them both. However, I prefer the DS, since it has more good games... it's as simple as that...

Ahh, let's see here.

Brain Age (which is pretty fun)

New Super Mario Bros.

Metroid Prime: Hunters

Meteos

Mario and Luigi

Mario Kart DS

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (which is a more mature game than most)

And uhh, Pokemon Dash... or not. :) DAMN that game sucks.

Let's see what the PSP's got over here:

Lumines

Burnout Legends

SOCOM

DS wins 7-3.

Time to play some Mario Kart DS.

...... lets see out of the 13 games i mentioned (not including sequels) 6 were FPS's which mathetmatically is nowhere near "almost" not to mention that i said the list goes on and on so just cuz i didn't mention Bloody Roar (1,2,3), Devil May Cry (1,mebee2, 3), Chaos Legion, Flatout (1 and 2), Def Jam (1, and 2), Metal Gear Solid (1,2,3), Mortal Kombat, WarHammer, Conker (1, and2) (and once again the list goes on and on) does not mean i didn't mean all these games as well. i mean if they HAVE to be mentioned to you well there you go another list of violent games that were pretty good that ARE NOT FPS. but then again there is Counter Strike and F.E.A.R. and Unreal but like u said no FPS.

and lets see you named this for DS

Brain Age (which is pretty fun)

New Super Mario Bros.

Metroid Prime: Hunters

Meteos

Mario and Luigi

Mario Kart DS

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (which is a more mature game than most)

when i in turn liked (for PSP)

Lumines

Burnout Legends

SOCOM

Def Jam

GTA: LCS

Field Commander (adv. wars knock off but muchos better graphicos)

Wipeout

Dark Mirror

Valkrie Profile

Coded Arms

Xmen - legends

so DS LOSES 7-11

and i STILL gotta wait for Metal Slug Anthology and KOF and once they get the PSONE emu officially on there its on like Donkey KONG (yeah i said it).

oh and i NEVER said Nintendo lacks innovation they always been innovative (catridges instead of CDs, mini CDS instead of regu. CDs, opting for a two handed controller) i said the market of gaming does. the 27 man was pissed that the market was selling us the same crap over and over but when u think about they've been doing it way before the PSP and the DS im not complaining i love sequels of my favorite stuff its just that you say every mario is different when the mechanics are virtually the same (jump around and explore stuff) hell Doom1 is WAY different then Doom 3 but you still jes go around and shoot stuff but like i said what changed is HOW you do it. Thats why Halo being an FPS (shoot stuff) is better than medal of honor (shoot stuff) and why Tekken (fight people) is better than Soul Calibur (fight people) and why GTA (3rd person shoot stuff) is better than True Crimes (third person shoot stuff). Different games same mechanics just depends on how u do it.
