Nomura: Kingdom Hearts 3D will let you see the future of Kingdom Hearts

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance focuses on high-flying, high-speed maneuvers which aim to give players an exhilarating experience on the 3DS. It won't be all about the fancy visuals on the new platform, though. According to Tetsuya Nomura, Kingdom Hearts 3D actually plays a real part in the series' storyline as well as in the future of the franchise.

Why don't you take it from the man himself? Nomura pitches into the game's press release, where he gives a brief background on the game.

The tenth anniversary for Kingdom Hearts is right before us, now the series is finally moving towards the last phase of the story. This story will be a prologue for the final battle, as with other titles many surprises await. This time, I took on a challenge and chose to use new hardware, the Nintendo 3DS, to present these surprises. A completely new system is being prepared, which will let you gaze at the vision of the future of Kingdom Hearts. I believe it will be bold and have even more exhilarating action. Please look forward to it.

BBS already tied up Ansem, Xemnas and Xehanort relationship for good, I'm still curious what of the letter Sora received from Mickey at the end of KH2

If I were to guess, BBS is like MGS3, showing off new characters to complete the saga in MGS4, thus the storyline will end at KH3, francise might still go on (spin-offs and what not)

The story is not complete yet the third game will wrap up the Xehanort sage. the series will go one and if you play RE:coded you will find out wat mickey puts in the letter. BBS is a prequel to the whole series. and Sora will always be the hero. These are all words from Tetsuya Nomura himself.
