No Dragon Quest remakes after all?

He got you, didn't he? - Image 1Big man Yoichi Wada stated a while back that Dragon Quest remakes were bound to come before Dragon Quest IX's grand outing to the DS. Plenty of Japanese gamers probably blew their heads off just thinking about the games they lined up for during childhood days being remastered on next-gen consoles. Unfortunately for them, Square Enix CEO is taking his statements back - there are no remakes prior to DQIX's release.

Apparently, such statement caused him all sorts of trouble. Whether because he spilled the beans when he wasn't supposed to, or SE's head honcho was somehow misinformed, we do not know.

That's not the only shocking revelation he gave. During the same meeting, he also mentioned that "although we are proceeding with FFXIII for the PS3, that doesn't mean we won't be able to to use it on other [platforms]." It's no secret that FFXIII Agito will reach mobile phones, but can this mean something else?

» This is some bull*****

WTF were they thinking? NO DQ REMAKES!? I WANT MINE! And WTH is with FFXIII!?!?!?!?!? I is supposed to be EXCLUSIVE! Nonexclusivenes s is what ruins the game industry!

Sony might lose one of their biggest exclusives. Another low blow for the PS3. how mean

FFXIII is built using the WHITE ENGINE.... and the White Engine is a universal engine, meaning games built with it can easily be ported to another platform IF SE chooses.

by Passer-by - 2007-06-26 21:53
» actually...

the white engine is built on the cell processor architiceture

this is exactly why they licensed and used unreal engine 3 for multi-platform as the White engine is optimized for the ps3 so it can not be easily used for other systems

apparently Yoida thinks about cash a lot, ofcourse hes the CEO

probably this is to milk more exclusive casf from Sony,as FFXIII alone is expected to sell no less than 5 million PS3 alone

Sony will almost certainly need FFXIII,no time to be arrogant now....just pay the check and get the game sony

» It Would Be Nice...

if they released all their old games on the Playstation Network. They would make so much money and people would be happy to download them for a small fee. I know I would.

Heh, if FF is no longer exclusive, I'm losing any incentive to buy a PS3. I just can't afford it, and it was only the exclusive titles that were prompting me to it.

Wooh for saving my precious money.

by WarriorR - 2007-06-27 02:24
» If it isn't exclusive

Then SE has to take things out because everyone knows all the data they're putting into the PS3 version won't fit on the 360. However I think this guy is mistaken because so many people were looking forward to dragon quest and it has been on the top of famitsu's list and SE knows that. For them to stop the game sends up red flags.

by Omatic - 2007-06-27 07:02
» Exactly.

Right, it's the nonexclusivenes s. Not the ESRB or the piracy, or the huge game developers only concerned with money, or dumb consumers.

It's the nonexclusivenes s that ruins the game industry.

The original article contains no ref to FFXiii. Same old crap from wishful thinkers.

If people can't see the benefits and evolutions that exclusives have bought about, look and think. We all understand financial greed but Competition is innovation.

For all you DQ fans, this doesnt make a big difference. All he said was that there would be no remakes until after DQIX. DQIX is supposed to be released this fall. Although it would be nice if they had a remake if they dont its not a big deal. By looking at the trailers for DQIX i would happily buy that as a replacement for a remake.

For FF fans. its true maybe FFXIII might be transfered to the Xbox 360 or whatever but if you want it so badly then just get the Xbox360. If sony wont buy it then thats there problem. Square Enix will still make more FFs and DQs
