Nintendo still dead last in Greanpeace Guide to Greener Electronics |
Listed in: PSP, Wii, PS3, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360 Tags: Greenpeace, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony

Nintendo once again ended up in last place in the 14th edition of Greenpeace's Guide to Greener Electronics. The company has consistently ranked at the bottom of the list in the guide's last three editions.
In this edition, Nintendo has a score of 1.4 out of a possible 10. The continued existence of PVC in Nintendo consoles is among the problems listed. Nintendo already said that PVS is subject to early withdrawal, although the guide notes that no timeline has been given.
Microsoft is right there in at the bottom with Nintendo, edging out the Wii and DS maker by only one point and placing 17th out of 18 companies. At 2.4, Microsoft's score actually fell from 2.7 due to "[failure] to support strong chemicals legislation."
Of the big three, Sony ranked the highest at 7th place. The company maintained its overall 5.1 score with a better energy total, but Greenpeace says that Sony still has to lobby for stronger chemicals legislation.

Nintendo are always marked near last because they don't voluntarily give the appropriate information to Greenpeace. Everyone else does, so what GP run off for Nintendo is their (publicly available) shipping data.
In Europe, Nintendo use recycled cardboard boxes (not shrink-wrapped like Microsoft peripherals), support rechargeable and replaceable batteries, they also have the lowest power of all the current gen consoles. They would actually score quite high. They just don't give a toss about Greenpeace's opinion since they have no leverage or power whatsoever.
As ever Greenpeace = a living joke of an organisation.

Adapting another factory to ease demand is a huge waste of resources for minimal gain. Yet I bet you 100 tree dollars that Greenpeace didn't even take that into consideration. The whole thing is based on what information is offered to them, for free. They don't pay for that information and don't acknowledge that Nintendo could actually be the most "green" (which I doubt they would be).
