Nintendo says it has no plans to cut Wii, DS prices this year |

It's a common occurrence for prices of game consoles to drop after some time. There are times, however, when a console manufacturer will opt not to cut the console's price. Such seems to be the case with Nintendo.
According to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, the company has no plans to lower the prices of either the Wii or the DS this year. As Iwata put it: "Our earnings projection for the year is not based on hardware price cuts, and I don't think we are going to need them."
Given Nintendo's market performance lately, Iwata's apparent confidence in the company's two current consoles is understandable. For one thing, Nintendo has not changed the selling price of the Wii in Japan (JPYÂ¥ 25,000 or approximately US$ 239) since the console's launch.

Looks like if there is a price cut, North America will get it last due to the low value of the dollar.
Unlike most other consoles the Wii has been priced appropriately from day one.
There is no need for a price cut. In fact, in most cases, the ongoing demand would have INCREASED the price.
We should all give THANKS to Nintendo for NOT being a typical greedy corporation and for NOT screwing us for profits.

Considering the Wii isn't much more than a gamecube which sells retail for $99 ($60 on ebay), It costs around 200% more than its worth. The inclusion of recycled tech demos (wii sports) does not add much value, since the're, well demos. Since day one, Nintendo has made over $100 profit on each Wii sold. Nintendo made 2.5 billion last year, which to me sounds like you're really being screwed for profits.
Rather, we should all give THANKS to Sony and Microsoft for delivering a good value console (sold initally at lower than production costs) with loads of great games for all audiences coming constantly.

The Wii is MUCH MUCH more then Gamecube. What you are referring to is the PROCESSOR. There is much more to the Wii then it's processor but we don't expect a know-nothing little boy like yourself to understand such thing.

Gamecube + gimmick controller nintendo didn't even invent + wifi + bluetooth + DVD drive + 250% price increase equals Wii (AKA Gamecube 1.1.)

It's very rare for a XBOX 360 to fail more than once unless the owner lets it overheat, moves it while the disc is reading, or something else stupid. When will people learn? That still won't keep people from b1tching about free repairs.
he PS3 is not much more expensive than the Wii, actually about the Wii's ebay price can get you a PS3. The XBOX 360 is only $30 more than the Wii's retail with all the obvious advantages over the Wii. Hell, even a similar controller is coming to the 360, leaving the Wii with NO advantages TO ANYONE who doesn't love playing the usual washed up mario games.

If you want true next gen gaming with no gimmicks, it doesn't cost much more. The XBOX 360 Arcade is a mere $30 more than a Wii. The PS3 40GB is only $150 more. This amounts to about 3 less Wii games for the same price, but with limitless features the Wii can never do. Wii games are only $10 cheaper (the many recycled shovelware titles are cheaper, but we're talking the best games for each system here.
In short, the Wii is absolutely the worst value of any console. The most expensive Nintendo console to date, yet uses last gen hardware to help Nintendo make that 2.5 billion (mostly on hardware sales.)
