Nintendo reports strong Q3 financials but has low expectations for remaining quarter |
Ó
Two days ago, Michael Pachter predicted that Nintendo will raise their hardware expectations
following the release of their strong Q3 performance report. Well, we
now have Nintendo's Q3 report, but they did just the opposite -
expectations are at a low, and they're preparing for the worst in the
remaining quarter.Armed with a solid reputation and platforms that sell like crazy, Nintendo reports global sales of ¥ 1,536 billion, about US$ 17 billion, over a span of nine months, from April-December of 2008. This incurred a 17% increase from the same period last year, as well as ¥ 501 billion worth of operating profits, about US$ 5.6 billion, up 27% from a year ago.
The Nintendo DS was forecasted to have better sales than Q3 by 3%, but the software expectations are down 3%. It's also down 3% for both the hardware and the software for the Wii, in spite of sales pwnage in and out of Japan. As a result, Nintendo has revised estimates for fiscal sales and profit projections for the full year ending March 31st of 2009.
When Pachter predicted otherwise:
