DSi software to be region locked - Image 1Tech-savvy gamers, you might want to perk up your ears for this one. According to Nintendo, both downloadable DSi software and future DSi cartridge games will be region locked.

Nintendo explains the reasons for these restrictions, saying:

DSi is region locked because DSi embeds net communication functionality within itself and we are intending to provide net services specifically tailored for each region.

Also because we are including parental control functionality for Nintendo DSi and each region has its unique age limit made by different independent.

You might want to keep it in mind before you pick one up when it becomes available. If you don't plan on buying games from outside your region though, you have nothing to worry about.

» you know, my dad taught me something when i was young...

if it was made by man, not by the Dear Lord, it can be hacked... i'm not trying to invoke religion into this discussion, but i know this for a fact that you can create the most high tech security features... look at the game Spore for example, 3 installs for legitimate customers, hackers, unlimited. get my drift ;)

» Total fabrication

I hate corp propaganda. This has nothing to do with networks and parents. It has everything to do with people downloading games from other regions and playing them. Oh noez!
