This is just through the grapevine, but sources close to Nintendo have told IGN that the company is getting ready to release the DSi in the United States during the first half of the year. Word has it that Nintendo and its partners will ship during April, most likely on the 4th. Insiders even reveal that the new handheld will be priced at US$ 179.99 upon launch.

So what's the big buzz? For those who don't know, the Nintendo DSi has a built-in camera, an SD Card slot, internal memory, as well as improved interface and access to DSiWare. Not much can be said about the looks, since it looks like the DS Lite.

When asked for comment, a Nintendo rep simply said that the company doesn't comment on rumors and speculation. IGN, however, has verified this info from three independent sources. So until Nintendo makes the announcement, this one's gonna be tagged as a rumor.

isoheavy claimed the DSi would be much cheaper, around $150 when it launched. I guess I proved him wrong again.

» Techni's full of something...

...and it ain't butterflies or rainbows. My launch PSP is good for an outing but not a REAL trip, a direct contrast to my sister's DS lite which got charged once every other night, and she loves those Mario games.

...But I guess Nintendo lost it. They should have stuck with development of a real successor rather than a cheap cash-in of an "upgrade". From what I understand the DSi WarioWare game "Utsusu Made in Wario" has shown how much of a pain it will be for developers to produce a games that use the low tech camera to good effect.
