Nintendo DS Wi-Fi Connection reaches 5 million users |
Ó
Cheers to good old Ninty. The Nintendo DS proved once again to be the best-loved handheld console, not just by numbers, but also with its varied fanbase as well. As opposed to the popular notion that videogames are dominated by young males, more and more females, as well as people 30 years old and above are finding themselves sitting down with a DS in their grubby little hands.
In a short span of only 18 months, 42 percent more women have purchased DS units for themselves (could it be because of the cute Noble Pink DS Lite?), not to mention that the number of sales among 30-ish people have increased more than a hundred percent. That's quite a feat to be achieved for only 18 months.
Another Nintendo DS success story is it's online gaming service, the Wi-Fi Connection. There are now about 5 million unique DS owners signed up for the Wi-Fi connection, and those DS fanatics have managed to reach an astounding 200 million game-play sessions to date. What with popular games such as Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon Pearl, as well as Animal Crossing backing up the DS online service (among others), it's not a surprise that more and more people are scrambling to get connected, if only to 'catch 'em all pokemon'.
It seems like Nintendo is getting more and more optimistic when it comes to their beloved tactile handheld: they have just released two new color palettes (Metallic Rose and Glossy Silver), could it be to attract a much sophisticated, older market? Whatever is going in their heads, we're just glad that they're around.

I like my DS, and yes its Noble Pink. A while ago Nintendo showed in my School, its a girls only private school, and they had a booth showing the DS Lite and some of its game.
I have to say that I instantly fall in love with DS, I think its a great video-game, and i carry it all over.
As far as colour goes, I still have one of those bright baby blue GameBoy SP, I would buy the same colour for the DS if available.
I choose the Pink one, because i bought it in the nintendo booth at the school, and they only had pink, the other colours we had to wait one or days to receive, so just picked up Pink, a copy of Nintendogs Labrador & Friends, Tetris and Mario Vs. Donkey Kong II.
I love my DS, my brother says his PSP is better. And I am sure it is.. But the DS is just more me! And it has better games, in my opinion.
