Nintendo DS Web Browser: exclusive only to DS Lite?

Nintendo DS Lite Browser - Image 1On Gamestop's product page for the Nintendo DS Lite Web Browser, there's been quite a confusion. A lot of people mistook the information and thought that the said browser would run exclusively on the DS Lite. Is it though?

Well, it has been confirmed that there will be different versions - one for the standard DS, another for the DS Lite - however, upon checking for a Nintendo DS Web Browser product page on Gamestop (sans "Lite"), we didn't seem to find any trace of it. Was the standard edition for the browser scrapped? Hmm, we'll have to look more into that.

Anyhoo, thatatlantic tipped us off to said product page and it's been revealed that your purchase will include a DS Lite Memory Expansion Pak. Again, emphasis on the "DS Lite." Since the Lite and standard DS units differ with GBA slots, this Memory Expansion Pak will be exclusive for the DS Lite. It's yet to be confirmed if the standard version (if there really is one) will have its own Memory Expansion Pak.

On the "software features" side of things though, one of the interesting things that our tippster pointed out was that the browser incorporates support for flash applications and websites. Hey, that's an instant plus side for you YouTube junkies out there.

The Nintendo DS Lite Web Browser pre-release shipment starts on June 6.

Full of ***** I tell you that! If you can play a game or web browser on DS Lite you can play it on the orginal DS its basicly the same hardware in the two just one is better.

what the hell is going on? I bought the browser a couple of weeks ago (for DS lite) and there's no flash support at all.

Is this a new version or just wrong info?

What happened in Australia was that only the Nintendo DS Lite version was available from video game retailers. You could still by the Original DS version from Nintendo Australia however, it even included free postage.

I happen to own a DS phat, and I know that the Browser would work fine on my system, but that would only be if I wanted to do a few things: File off the dang tab for the memory pack, then jam the pack into the GBA port, then have to destroy the cartridge if I ever want it to come out!

Why can't they just sell both types (or realize that anything that can fit in the DS phat can fit in the DS lite!)

i was under the impression that there are no software differences between the normal DS and the DS lite. just cosmetic. so why would they need different versions of the same program if they run the same OS?

# Different slotsGuest 2007-04-22 08:19
The GBA slot on the Lite is different from the original DS.

As an owner of the original DS, this is a real pain in the ass. Been eager to buy this... Now there's no point if this is true. Can't even buy accessories for the original DS anymore. Absolutely ridiculous to stop supporting a current generation handheld like this. (You could still buy regular GBA accessories, even when the Micro came out.)

I need some replacement stylus for my DS and you can't buy them anymore. Not even third party.

# REAL ds web browser infoGuest 2007-05-14 10:52
okay...lets get this thing started!

here's some real facts about the ds web brower. It's up to you whether u want to believe it or not. But i actually have proof, so listen up.

Q: 1) Is there going to be an (original) DS web browser?

A: 1) Yes. There is going to be an (original) DS web browser.

Q: 2) Can you buy an (original) DS web browser at a retail store? (ex. walmart, gamestop, target ,etc...)

A: 2) No. You have to order an (original) DS web browser online. I don't know where exactly, but i'll update you guys/girls when I find out. Only the "DS Lite" web browser will be sold at retail stores.

Q: 3) How many DS web browser versions are there?

A: 3) There are currently three DS web browser versions.

Version A: Japan version [Date it came out:July 24,2006]

Version B: Europe version [Date it came out: Oct 6,2006]

Version C: US version [Date it "comes" out: June 4,2006]

I hope this answer's your question "huh? Unregistered"

That's all the Q/A's i have ,but if you guys/girls have anymore questions then just post one and i'll answer it to the best of my ability.

Now here is some really important information. Now i know alot of "impatient people" went ahead and ordered a DS lite web browser online, and hey, that's fine. But unfortunately you guys lucked out.

I am aware that a DS web browser doesn't support flash or java.

Now here's the big information.

1. THE JAPANESE DS WEB BROWSER DOES NOT SUPPORT FLASH OR JAVA

2. THE EUROPEAN DS WEB BROWSER DOES NOT SUPPORT FLASH OR JAVA

3. THE US DS WEB BROWSER DOES SUPPORT FLASH!!!

I am not sure if the ds web browser will support java and/or video, but i'll send a post as soon as i find out.

Now I've just laid out alot of information that some will believe me, and others will just not care. That's fine, but for those of you who need some solid information, here are some websites where I have found all the information above.

1. Wikipedia: type in nintendo ds web browser

2. my opera.com/community/forums

3.dualscreenradio .com

Okay...I think that's about it. I hope I helped you guys out. See yeah later!

# No! ur gay!Guest 2007-05-15 10:53
the psp sucks. and this is coming from a

sega genesis/n64/psone/ps2 owner, so its not like i'm dissing sony. but the psp sucks because it barely has any good games. it has like 70% ports(meaning like a copy of a ps2 game) example: battlefront 2

the analog also sucks.

the same people who are running to the psp, (only because its more popular)were once n64 fans. u psp owners suck!
