DS LiteIn a new statement just issued by Nintendo, the company reports that they have now sold more than 21 million Nintendo DS systems worldwide since the launch in November 2004. This statistically means that there's one Nintendo DS sold every two second, or 23 systems per minute. Rather than picking at their rival Sony, Nintendo has preferred to compare themselves with Apple, who sold 1 million iPod music players in a similar timespan of 19 months.

George Harrison, senior vice president of marketing said that this success mainly comes from "Nintendo's overall strategy of offering something for everyone – from five-year-olds caring for their Nintendogs to 65-year-olds tuning their mental agility with Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day".

With the new DS Lite now in stores, selling almost as well as it's predecessor at launch, and the huge success of the Touch Generations line of games, the DS is at the peak of it's popularity. 130 DS titles are currently available, backed up by a library of 880 GBA titles. And gamers can look into a bright future in the following months with the release of games like Starfox Command, Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, Final Fantasy III and many more.

???

1 sold every 2 seconds or 23 sold every minute ?? You've got some serious rounding going on there.... wouldn't it be more accurate to say 1 every 3 seconds?

Heh. Finally Official.

We've known it for some time, but it's finally official. This means the DS has just about outsold the GameCube and will have outsold the Xbox by the end of this month.

FAKE

Nintendo needs to stop being liars. I don't know anyone who has a DS. All my friends have PSP's because they are cool. You can't even watch movies on the DS. Why do people make up stories like this?

OMG

This years most stupid comment goes to: LawYar for his comment: "All my friends have PSP's because they are cool." Congratulations. And BTW the DS *CAN* play movies, do a little research before puking out nonsense.

Good Luck nintendo

DS already outsold GameCube... It will be soon when it outsells Nintendo 64. Well i say good, they'll need the money to support their dying home console division. We all know Nintendo hasn't made a decent home console in 16 years. We can't expect the Wii to be any different.

duh

everybody knew the ds was outselling the psp worldwide, hell psp sales dont come close, but im happy to own two psps for homebrew and soon a ds lite for homebrew, psp just sucks when it goes against the ds, phat or lite and thats a fact because th ds is a gaming machine just like the wii will be, and wii will obviously be first next gen followed by xbox 360 then ps3, or is it ps3 then xbox 360? many idiot sony fanboys thats why :)

who's the young gamer?

My comment goes to all the "adult" playstation gamers out there who whine like little kids when some news of another system out in the web makes the playstation sound only sub par. If you want to be heard as older gamers then maybe it would be a good idea to sound like one. Yes all systems have pros and cons and no one console/handheld is omgstfu better than the other. However that is just a matter of opinion

give me a break

I know like 2 people with a DS (including me) and like 10 people with a PSP. Console sales is counted the same way CD sales are. They dont count how many units are actually sold they count how many they ship out. and even though I like the DS im gonna have to correct you here thats is exactly wat about 2 say cause ds can do every thing a psp can 4 instance psp hombrew:yes (expanding and is amazing and easy to use.) ds hombrew:yes (confusing, expensive, and theres very little) psp webbrowser:yes (and it built in and enables downloads, java, and flash) ds webbrowser:yes (have to buy a cart. and it slow and cant do aything but viw pages) psp media(movies, music, etc.):yes (and the quality is much better, and easier to use) ds media(movies, music, etc.):yes (have to order a cart. and the qualty isnt as good and it sucks to hatch ideos on the horrid screen) psp backed up games:yes (extreamly easy to use) ds backed up games:yes(but better, easier, less hassle) (i dont know what the hell ur talking about how can running backup game be any better? it cant. i can assure you its not easier, and there is no haslte. you download it, put it in a folder, done) psp(ways of bricking):only if you get youre stuff off google and theres a virus scanner ds(ways of bricking):little 2 none (because you dont have to use any apps that hack the flash of the DS because theres little 2 no homebrew for it, and theres no virus scanners) psp 200+ (its actually 200, not anything over) ds: priceless (oh really? cause I just bought one for 150 bucks) get youre facts straight before you try and bash a something. no matter how much I like or dislike something ill stick up for it if someone gives wrong info. thats illegall.
