Fred Upton - Image 1A new bill that mirrors one from last year has been proposed by Michigan congressman Fred Upton. Upton filed H.R. 1531, or the Video Game Decency Act of 2007, late last week.

This piece of federal legislation will make it illegal for game developers to hide content in the hope of gaining a less restrictive ESRB rating.

According to GamePolitics, the bill has been referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, of which Upton is a member. Upton was also one of the major critics who raised their voices against the Hot Coffee scandal. Part of H.R. 1531 reads like this:

It shall be unlawful... to... distribute... any video game that contains a rating label... for that video game where the person, with  the intent of obtaining a less restrictive age-based content rating, failed to disclose content of the video game that was required to be disclosed to the independent ratings organization...

Upton's original 2006 bill was designed to give the FTC "the authority to impose civil penalties."

# yeah.. that make senseGuest 2007-03-20 02:19
It make sense that this bill is being introduced due to the Hot Coffee.. a game hack that opens an option never intended for the game, but was left on.

It's not as if there 'aren't' hundred of developers interested in hiding content so that they can get SUE later on. Oh nooo... this is very important, much like that war in Iraq.

this bill only forces game developers to not hide details when getting their game rated. If they do hide content to get a lower rating and then a Mature situation occurs in a Teen rated game, it's not the ESRB that gets sued.... it's the game developer. I personally agree with this bill and think that nothing bad can or will come of passing it.

what will be next? Maybe they will ban games with violence and sexual content completely. I know that a lot of game developers will not make as many games that are M rated if this bill passes. They may think that it would not pay as much to do so if they can't expose these games to more people. I hope it works out good for all of us in the end.

Try to put references in things that actually work. I think people that just ***** and moan instead of supporting or troops should leave the country, physically or life-wise.

1. Bush didn't start the civil war, there has always been one.

2. That isn't the plan. The plan is to reach a line in terrorist amount, and thus it should be enough for the Asian countries to handle themselves.

3. There was victory, just not completion. Iraq is nothing as it had been for thousands of years, that is a dictatorship with harsh un-moralistic idealisms. This marked a change, Saddam is down, the Iraqi's are heading in.

4. You think it's greater? Obviously you're too "intelligent" to NOT see the media. If you've even once spoke to a troop about it, they'll say the media portrays it worse than it really is. Hell, they've been caught starting up protests just to get a "story". This came from a troop, yes, people 'I' support. The reality is, this is nothing compared past wars (WWI/WWII/Veitnam) in deaths and in meaning. Those wars weren't about us (except for WWII's Japanese Pearl Habor Attack), but westill went about it.

Now that the US is defending ourselves from a attack on our soil, you say we must just say "Oh, it's okay, we don't want to send troops there cause it wont happen anymore"? Good job, please just move out of the country you betrayer, bringing harm to attack again.

5. The National guards were helping, dumbass, but maybe if the looting bastards didn't shoot at rescue boats, it would have gone smoother. Hell, maybe if those lazy asses thought about their families and actually strived to find a way out, they wouldn't have such an issue. They wanted to loot (the items taken were proof of a want, and not a need) and think they'll be fine anyways... their fault, and most of them shooting at rescue people should have be shot on the seen.

6. WTF are you on!? Seriously, you have no idea at all! Saddam supported terrorist movement and HE KILLED ANYONE HE DIDN'T LIKE. How is he ANYWHERE close to a positive?

7. So, send them home before the mission is done? Why not just say "Your family and friends that died on duty was for nothing, just come back and forget their goals".

8. THERE IS NO DRAFT! People join the army services ON THEIR OWN WILL. I support all troops cause of their courage and want to protect the country they love. Ithink you should just die in a hole... .seriously.

"Perspectives/Opinions" don't equal "Facts" dumbass.

I volunteered like the others said. The Iraqis are very happy we're there. The Vietnamese were happy. The Brits were happy. The French were happy. The Germans and Italians were happy. Kuwaitis were happy.

It was me and those who came before me that made this possible. So, STFU you stupid liberal and leave my chain of command alone. You only sit there while we fight so you could say what you want, which is libelous btw. So STFU and leave my country and leave my military alone and let us do our jobs, dammit.

Humanity is hopeless.

There is no chance of peace in the world forever, as long as people believe what they are told.

Hell, let's start some s*it in Iran, or maybe North Korea. At least they could have a chance of actually having weapons of mass destruction.

This is Vietnam 2, just with more suicide bombers. That war could still be going on if it wasn't for the thosands of protestors hoping to end it.

Most of the foreign terrorists are afraid of thier own countries being invaded. If Iraq was invaded basically for having resources and a weak military, other countries are worried. Iran is making nuclear weapons now. Lots of countries are ruled by evil dictators. Should the US just invade them all in the name of freedom?

Saddam was a monster, but no threat to the US. He was supported by the US during the Iran Iraq war even though Iraq invaded Iran for oil and used poison gas on thousands of civilians. Saddam did far worse things when he was a US ally.

Don't talk if you don't know history.

Somebody who does not want to see more soliders die has no common sense? Any success in Iraq is only temporary without a plan. Bush has no plan, just send more soldiers to their deaths. He refuses to make requirments the Iraqi government must meet. He thinks different religious factions will just get along after centuries of hatred? Taking power from sunnis and giving it to shiites will make everything ok? Bush is just keeping troops and equipment bought from his business partners and campaign contributors flowing in, and that's all he cares about.

That is all, continue believing what you're told if you like living a lie.

Did you give him freedom of speech?

Sad to say, but you're fighting a war for bush, not for helping americans. There is no pure military solution to the problems bush caused, or the war that all americans are paying for in one way or another. Make bush pay, it's his fault and he's got unimaginable wealth. Try him for war crimes since he did many of the things Saddam did, just differently.
