Top Gear Downforce

And so one of the longest-running racing games finally makes its way onto the Nintendo DS. After having announced the newest member of the Top Gear franchise last April, we finally get a batch of screenshots to see what the developers have churned out far. Top Gear: Downforce is the latest in a series that goes back to 1992 when the first Top Gear game was released on the NES and developed by Gremlin Graphics. Fast forward to 2006 and 15 sequels on various platforms later, and we now have Tantalus working on this version for the Nintendo DS.

The official website for this title lists the following features:
  • a viewpoint that is suited for handheld racing and made specifically for the DS
  • 6 vehicle types and a wide variety of skins
  • tracks and terrains which feature alternate paths and shortcuts
  • interactive environments which allows one to interact with, set up or fall for hazards on the road
  • four-player wireless multiplayer racing and data sharing
The game promises to be a simple and addictive game which puts the fun factor at the forefront without neglecting other elements such as graphics and physics. So, will this title be as successful as its predecessors? We'll find out once a release date is announced and when we finally get our hands on this game.
