EA today officially (it has been in magazines though) announced the upcoming multiplatformer (available on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, but also PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, NDS, GBA, PSP and PC) Need for Speed: Carbon along with some new screenshots. The game will be a mix of Most Wanted and Underground gameplay, so you'll be able to customize your ride as well as escape from the police. The game is set to release November this year. Here are the new next-gen screenshots:

Good God!

Talk about a big improvement over Most Wanted. The cars lack that next-gen light bloom super reflectivity...which is good. The subtle lighting rocks too. =]

Hope the Wii version uses the wiimote well...

Kind of like how THQ makes more than one WWE game. Unlike Madden, which is the same on every system, THQ made both Day of Reckoning and Smackdown vs RAW. As a result if you own a Gamecube and a PS2 you would probably buy both games. If you hold the wiimote on it's side and use it like a steering wheel your left with at least 7 other buttons (if the B trigger is to hard to reach) There is no good reason for this game not to use the wiimote...

Cars look good...

...but just look at the street and you see low-res bitmaps (and no bump mapping) all over the place. So that about the graphics part. In terms of gameplay I think NFS somehow lost its spirit. NFSU1 was really something cool and new but with NFSU2 the game got worse. The 2nd Underground game simply did not have such a nice, dark and industrial feeling and somehow seemed like something fast made and nothing where the devs spend time in. Didn't play Most Wanted too long but in my opinion this didn't feel that good too. They should take more time to release a new NFS so it is wisely done and not just a "I play it once and then not again" game. Can't say something about the games before NFSU1 by the way, never played them. But from what I've heard they were better. Let's see how this new game turns out.

The cars

The cars do look good, but the smoke effects in the third shot look crap. Sort it out EA, phone Activision and ask them how they got those great smoke effects in Call Of Duty 2!

Nice

The game look nice. Hope it is not all luxury cars like most wanted and hope for more customization. Also drifting and challeging cars in the street should be in game like the underground series.

NFS HP2

NFS Hot Pursuit 2 have been the best NFS game i've ever played, even more better than the underground series and the most wanted, and the first NFS that i played was the NFS 2 and all i can say is that McLaren F1 Rulez!!!!

I couldn't stand the underground games. I thought I hated the street import type games... untill I played MidnightClub 3! Now I realise that I just hate NFS underground :P.

LOL

EA Games ruined yet another franchise YAY! the car has considerably more polygons BUT everything else its EXTREMEMLY LACKING such as any type of physic known to man and smoke effects that we accecptable 5 years ago... come on EA this is supposed to be next gen.. are you gonna do what you're doing in your sports games? bring some features in one year then replace them completly with diferent ones? but hey .. it sell so EA is happy and the tools who couldnt care less about the quality of the game will say HEY ITS A NEW NFS GAME IT HAS TO BE GOOD CAUSE ITS NFS. then they look past all its pethetic screw ups and buy it then ea games makes MORE bad games. the cycle NEVER ends. have fun all you EA fanboys... most people complain about soncole fanboys but no one noticed how EA games continually releases worse games every year yet their net profit increases every year. well if this one DOES turn out to be good ill get it but most wanted did not even deserve the NFS name
