The NeoFlash Spring Coding Competition is still heating up, and we've got three more homebrew entries to fill that flashcart of yours. Nope, no games here, just very useful (and very nifty) applications that you might want a look into if you're the sort to try your hand at coding games, watch movies on your DS, or play the guitar.

First up is Wee Basic, version 0.4. This particular homebrew lets you program and debug your own homebrew games on the Nintendo DS, and its latest version now lets you use sprites and backgrounds. Pretty awesome? We'd say so too. All the facts about installation and usage are in the readme file, so be sure to give that a look before doing anything. And don't forget to DLDI patch!

Fixed:
  • bugs with nested ifs
added/changed:
  • neo splash screen
  • sprites on both screens (must be gif files)
  • backgrounds on both screens (must be gif files)
  • can uses start or A to start a program running
new commands:
  • loadspr number,screen,x,y,,width,height,file name
  • movspr number, screen, x,y
  • delspr number, screen
  • backgr screen, file name
Next up is Spinal's Media Player. This homebrew dealie plays movies on your Nintendo DS, and is coded with palib. Since this is the first version, this one comes as it is - and you'll have to convert your movies to .smf to play them with Spinal's Media Player. The author notes that you can switch between screens by pressing the X button.

Last but not least is TabBed, a guitar application for the NIntendo DS by Wizlon. This one also includes a guitar tab viewer that can read guitar tabs off your flash card, a chord dictionary, a chord finder, a metronome, an mp3 player and so on - which makes this one a very jam-packed homebrew indeed. As always, remember to DLDI patch.
