N64 Controllers and Gameboys in Weta Workshop's Tripod

Ó

It seems that the folks at Weta Workshop are closet Nintendo fanboys. They may not explicitly profess their undying love for Nintendo, but if you've been paying close attention, you might have seen the signs of Weta's Nintendo fixation. Donutta over at the NZGamer forum has posted pictures of the menacing "Tripod" (a monument of some sort created to celebrate the Wellington film industry). If you happen to live in New Zealand, you might want to check it out.

One would think that if there are hidden markings in that massive  monument, it would be something that will remind us of the great works of the company - anything relating to "The Lord of the Rings," perhaps. But no, none of those. Instead, we see these:

and this:

Weta's got the N64 controller and Gameboy covered, perhaps, a year or two from now we'd see a DS and a Wii carved down there somewhere.

Thanks, badam for the tip!

Good story, but needed more information about who the Weta Workshop actually are. Nice that it's not as late as some other stories (just a few days after joystiq in this case).

I can't believe you don't know who Weta Workshop is!

They are the Studio who made the beautiful Lord of the Rings Trilogy possible (and Peter Jackson's King Kong...and several others by now). They are also currently working on a live action Neon Genesis Evangelion. The studio was started by Peter Jackson (of Lord of the Rings fame of course).

Here's a link to their homepage: http://www.wetaworkshop.co.nz/

if it doesn't show up just google "Weta Workshop".
